Summary: Mechanical stimulation can enhance the osteogenic properties of exosomes secreted by PDLSCs through the upregulation of miR-200b/c. These miRNAs target Smurf1 to activate the BMP-Smad signaling pathway and promote osteogenic differentiation of mandibular BMSCs. Functionalized exosomes containing miR-200b/c can effectively promote the repair of alveolar bone defects in a rat model, providing a novel therapeutic approach for inflammatory bone loss in periodontitis.

Summary: This study finds that appropriate flow shear stress promotes the proliferation of periodontal ligament (PDL) cells. Flow shear stress remodels the cytoskeleton and focal adhesion of PDL cells and activates the p38-AMOT-YAP signaling pathway to regulate cell proliferation and nuclear translocation.

Summary: Orthodontic tooth movement is a topic of interest for both medical and engineering communities. Previous studies focused on stress distribution and remodeling processes, but lacked a practical clinical decision support platform. This paper presents a simplified numerical model that bridges this gap and provides accurate clinical results, as demonstrated by comparison with real-world cases.

Summary: The development of a bioinspired peri-implant ligament with enhanced osteointegration and energy-dissipation capabilities presents new possibilities for creating high-performance implanted materials with increased lifespans. This artificial ligament, based on a polymer-infiltrated, amorphous, titania nanotube array, increases bone-implant contact and reduces effective stress transfer from implant to peri-implant bone, achieving results not previously seen with titanium implants.

Summary: This study presents and discusses experimental results for large-scale slender circular reinforced concrete columns. The results show that increasing eccentricity leads to a significant decrease in peak axial load and stiffness, while increasing slenderness ratio results in similar reductions. Interaction diagrams for circular GFRP-RC short and slender columns were developed and a simple modification to consider the slenderness effect was proposed based on the experimental results.

Summary: The regeneration of periodontal tissues is important for the treatment of periodontitis. This study investigated the osteogenic and odontogenic differentiation of periodontal progenitor and stem cells in decellularized tooth matrix (dTM) and periodontal ligament (dPDL) in both 2D and 3D culture conditions. The results showed that the combination of dTM and dPDL promoted both osteogenic and odontogenic differentiation of periodontal cells.

Summary: The study tested twelve concrete columns reinforced with FRP bars under concentric and eccentric loadings, finding that columns reinforced with BFRP and GFRP had similar load-carrying capacities, lower than their steel-reinforced counterparts, with a more pronounced impact of increasing reinforcement ratio on eccentric columns. The contribution of GFRP and BFRP bars to column capacity was similar, while ignoring the strength contribution of FRP bars in design codes may lead to conservative predictions.

Summary: The study evaluated the diagnostic performance of I-124-MIBG PET/CT compared to I-123-MIBG in detecting neuroblastoma lesions, finding that I-124-MIBG PET/CT was more sensitive and detected lesions throughout the body more effectively. Despite a 10-fold higher effective dose for I-124-MIBG compared to I-123-MIBG, the actual administered dose during treatment was similar, demonstrating the potential for low-dose I-124-MIBG PET in monitoring disease burden.

Summary: A 3D-CNN architecture guided by tumor masks was developed to classify patient outcomes from DCE-MRI images in breast cancer, showing higher accuracy than other methods. Examination of activation maps suggests that image-based prediction models could be improved with conservatively generated masks, rather than relying solely on unguided 3D-CNNs.

Summary: AADC deficiency is a rare genetic disorder characterized by deficient synthesis of dopamine and serotonin. In a clinical trial, delivery of AAV2-hAADC to the midbrain in children with AADC deficiency was found to be safe and led to clinical improvements in symptoms and motor function. The study demonstrated potential for midbrain gene delivery as a feasible and safe treatment approach for AADC deficiency.
