Summary: Turkey is experiencing a rapid transition from an ageing to aged population, with increasing health and LTC unmet needs. Older people in Turkey face high levels of depression, loneliness, and co-morbidity, with the LTC and welfare systems relying heavily on families, especially women. A hierarchical model estimated LTC cost in Turkey to be 0.02% of GDP, considering high labour participation age range and low female employment levels.

Summary: Poor food and fluid intake are common problems in long-term care, and institutional factors are partially responsible. Evidence-based guidelines can provide best practices, but feasibility and environmental factors must be considered in implementation. Relationships among residents, family members, and staff offer opportunities for improving nutrition.

Summary: This study aims to explore the relationship between long-term care needs and socioeconomic risks for households in Spain and Italy. The results confirm that households are at risk of socioeconomic deprivation, particularly informal carers who are often women. To address this issue, it is necessary to improve the coordination and integration strategy of public long-term care and consider different resources.

Summary: The collaboration of different professions is crucial for complex outpatient care for geriatric patients, and care and case management (CCM) can provide support. The aim of this qualitative study was to evaluate the experiences and attitudes of those involved in the care. The results showed that CCM can optimize the long-term care of geriatric patients, and the different occupational groups involved also benefit from it.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted routine care for older individuals, particularly those living in long term care facilities. The vaccination of older adults in LTC facilities against COVID-19 is crucial in protecting them from infection and death. The GeroCovid Vax study in Italy aims to investigate the safety and efficacy of anti-SARS-CoV-2 vaccines in this population.

Summary: This study explored the current knowledge, experience, and willingness of pre-registered nurses in Taiwan to serve in geriatric long-term care. Results showed that willingness to serve in GLTC was positively correlated with experience of living with older adults, practicum experience, taking GLTC-related courses, and interest in GLTC. The importance of GLTC-related courses in enhancing nursing students' willingness to serve older/disabled patients was highlighted.

Summary: This study implemented the Geriatric Prescribing Context (GPC) to improve medication prescribing for hospitalized older adults. After 42 months, most medications showed better alignment with GPC recommendations in terms of dose and frequency. However, the long-term impacts varied among different medications, highlighting the need for further research to ensure appropriate prescribing and understand the effects of GPC on patient outcomes such as adverse drug events.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between residential greenness exposure and geriatric depression among elderly with long-term care insurance in Shanghai, China. The findings suggest that residential greenness exposure is significantly associated with geriatric depression, with perceived social support potentially mediating this association. The association was stronger in elderly with lower education level and lower family monthly income, indicating the importance of green spaces for mental health among vulnerable populations.

Summary: Residents with atrial fibrillation and geriatric conditions are at increased risk for stroke, but the presence of geriatric conditions does not increase the risk of bleeding. Calculating a CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc score can help LTC providers make decisions about anticoagulation therapy for these residents.
