Summary: This review aims to provide a description of the historical perspectives and the current epidemiology of tropical, imported, and local endemic infectious diseases in Japan. It discusses the public health legislation for infectious diseases and immigration statistics to provide a background of the infectious disease situation in Japan. The review summarizes the trends of the main 15 imported infectious diseases before the advent of COVID-19, as well as the local endemic infectious diseases in Japan. The transmission risks of traditional cuisines, lifestyles, and nature exposures in Japan are introduced to guide clinicians in providing travel advice to prevent these local infectious diseases.

Summary: This study identified risk factors for various diseases in an African population. Living in a tropical climate was found to be a major risk factor for tropical diseases, while contact with infected individuals and poor personal hygiene also posed high risks. Urbanization and homelessness were associated with low risks, while certain lifestyle factors like low fluid intake and wearing non-cotton underwear predisposed individuals to specific diseases.

Summary: This study addresses the challenges of business model innovation (BMI) by adopting a process view, focusing on the utilization of existing resources in new domains known as exaptation. It investigates the role of strategic agility (SA) in BMI through a qualitative case study on a small to medium-sized enterprise (SME). The findings demonstrate the stages of exaptation in the BMI process, the complex relationship between SA and BMI, and the triggering of exaptation by strategic sensitivity and resource fluidity. The study proposes strategic agility as an enabling capability for exaptation and BMI.
