Summary: The overall pooled cancer risk after exposure to RAI therapy vs nonexposure was not significant, but a linear dose-response association was observed between RAI therapy and solid cancer mortality. The findings suggest that radiation-induced cancer risks following RAI therapy for hyperthyroidism are small and may only be detectable at higher levels of administered dose in observational studies.

Summary: Resveratrol has the potential to improve glucose and insulin levels in patients with type 2 diabetes, with significant improvement in glucose observed at doses of 500-1000 mg/day, and improvement in insulin seen at doses lower than 500 mg/day or greater than 1000 mg/day.

Summary: A meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the necessity of androgen deprivation therapy combined with radiotherapy for intermediate-risk prostate cancer patients. The results showed that androgen deprivation therapy combined with radiotherapy did not provide overall survival and biochemical recurrence-free survival advantages to intermediate-risk prostate cancer patients. Therefore, radiotherapy alone may be an effective treatment for these patients.

Summary: This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the association between IGFBP1 expression and cancer risk. The results showed that high IGFBP1 expression was associated with a decreased risk of prostate cancer and colorectal cancer. However, there was no significant association between IGFBP1 expression and risk of ovarian cancer, breast cancer, endometrial cancer, colorectal adenoma, lung cancer, or multiple myeloma.

Summary: This study evaluated the antitumor efficacy of polyphyllins in animal models through a systematic review and meta-analysis. The results showed that polyphyllins could effectively reduce tumor volume and weight without affecting the growth of mice. The molecular mechanisms of the antitumor activity of polyphyllins were also explained.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found a significant association between metabolic syndrome and prostate cancer in cross-sectional studies, particularly in patients with clinically significant prostate cancer. However, the association was not significant when combining all studies, cohort studies, and case control studies. Further research is needed to understand the potential bias in observational studies.

Summary: Tofacitinib is a novel therapy for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, but safety concerns regarding cardiovascular side effects and cancer risk have been raised. This meta-analysis compared the cancer risk of tofacitinib with a placebo and other therapies and found no significant difference in overall cancer risk. However, a slightly higher risk of cancer was observed in patients treated with tofacitinib compared to those treated with tumor necrosis factor inhibitors. Further studies are needed to better understand the cancer risk of tofacitinib therapy.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine the association between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and ovarian cancer risk. The results showed no significant correlation between MetS and ovarian cancer risk. Only the unadjusted stratification of smoking and hysterectomy risk demonstrated a relationship between MetS and ovarian cancer risk.

Summary: This systematic review with meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety profiles of cancer umbrella trials testing targeted drugs or a combination of targeted therapy with chemotherapy. The study found that, on average, one in five cancer patients responded to a given therapy, while one in 125 died due to drug toxicity. The results do not support the expectation of increased patient benefit in cancer umbrella trials, and further studies should be conducted.

Summary: Clopidogrel, a commonly used antiplatelet drug, may be a modifiable and causal risk factor of hypoglycemia. Substituting clopidogrel with ticagrelor has been shown to be an effective treatment. The Asian population may be more susceptible to clopidogrel-associated hypoglycemia and require additional care.

Summary: Through analysis of data from the European Prospective Investigation of Cancer, Norfolk cohort, it was found that moderate calcium intake may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality, while also potentially providing protection against future stroke. Calcium supplementation appears to have a beneficial effect on mortality rates in women, but not in men.

Summary: This study investigated the temporal and geographical distribution of COVID-19 hospitalized patients in the Iran Health Insurance Organization insured population and factors affecting their case fatality rate. The results showed variations in hospitalization rates and case fatality rate among different regions and population groups. Understanding the primary causes of COVID-19 death and severity in different groups can help develop targeted management programs for more vulnerable groups.
