Summary: This study investigated sarcopenia and nutritional status in Chilean older adults aged 65 and older. The results showed that nearly 50% of the participants had probable sarcopenia, with obese individuals having a higher risk. There is an association between nutritional status and sarcopenia.

Summary: Frailty is associated with decreased dignity in older adults, with frailty being the leading predictor of dignity. Providers should develop programs to prevent and reduce frailty in those at risk and enhance the dignity of already frail individuals.

Summary: Social integration, network, and support are beneficial to health, but there is little evidence on the association between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and social integration in later life. This study found that older people with a history of ACEs have lower social integration. These findings support the life course approach and highlight the importance of recognizing the impact of early-life adversities on social life in old age.

Summary: There is an association between (at risk of) malnutrition and oral health in older people, with differences in teeth count, soft tissue problems, and subjective oral health perception. Further longitudinal cohort studies are needed to evaluate this association more accurately.

Summary: Through network meta-analysis, we found that olanzapine and clozapine were associated with greater deteriorations, while aripiprazole and ziprasidone were associated with smaller deteriorations. Higher polarizability and 5-HT1A receptor occupancy were associated with smaller deteriorations, while H1, M1, and M3 receptor occupancies were associated with larger deteriorations. Drug rankings may guide towards switching to metabolically safer drugs, and mechanistic insights can suggest improvements for combination therapies and drug development. More data on newer antipsychotics are still required.

Summary: This study investigated the adverse effects of psychoactive substance intoxication on bodily organ functioning. It found that opioids or stimulants intoxication was associated with less liver and kidney dysfunction compared to alcohol, but more cardiovascular dysfunction. Kidney dysfunctions had a greater effect on mortality compared to other dysfunctions. Men experienced more liver and kidney dysfunctions as well as mortality, but psychoactive substance experience was a protective factor in cardiovascular dysfunctions and mortality.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in US older adults and the risk of dementia, finding that ACEs were positively associated with the risk of dementia in older adulthood. The study results showed that the more adverse childhood experiences reported, the higher the probability of developing dementia in older age.

Summary: This study found an association between postural tremor in older adults and ADL disability, particularly in the mobility domain of ADL. The increased risk of disability was mainly due to older age and a higher prevalence of chronic comorbidities in older people with postural tremor. Postural tremor was not a strong independent predictor of ADL disability in older people.

Summary: As people age, they often develop multiple health conditions and require the use of multiple medications. This can lead to an increase in anticholinergic exposure, which has been linked to declining physical function in older adults.
