Summary: The study aimed to evaluate a novel 2-session behavioral intervention to promote HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake among at-risk men who have sex with men (MSM). Results showed that the brief intervention significantly increased the likelihood of attending a clinical PrEP appointment and accepting a prescription for PrEP compared to treatment-as-usual, demonstrating preliminary efficacy in promoting PrEP uptake among at-risk MSM.

Summary: Researchers have found a link between circulating misinformation online and low COVID-19 vaccine uptake. Motivational Interviewing (MI) has been effective in reducing vaccine hesitancy in clinical settings, while inoculation, rebuttal, and appeals to accuracy have been persuasive in digital contexts. However, there is a tension between these approaches, as MI in digital forums may lead to an 'illusory truth effect,' and directly rebutting misinformation may elicit backfire effects. This paper proposes a community-oriented MI framework for digital interventions, highlighting the importance of addressing commenters and bystanders, activating pro-vaccine bystanders, and reframing information according to collective values.

Summary: The study aimed to improve the competence of providers in managing HIV in minority youth by providing the behavioral intervention program of TMI. Results showed a significant increase in competence scores in the TMI group, validating the effectiveness of TMI. Qualitative findings indicated that time constraints and competing priorities were barriers to implementing TMI, while integrating MI into agency practices and providing ongoing training could facilitate implementation.

Summary: Delay or refusal of childhood vaccines is common and may be increasing. Pediatricians struggle with how to communicate with parents who resist recommended vaccines. A curriculum has been developed to train pediatric clinicians on a specific vaccine communication strategy, which has been perceived as useful by participants. The training program has the potential for high engagement among pediatric clinicians.

Summary: This study developed a low-touch behavioral intervention combining motivational interviewing and behavioral economics to improve viral suppression rates among African American/Black and Latino individuals with HIV. The findings showed that the intervention was feasible and highly acceptable, and it had the potential to increase HIV viral suppression rates.

Summary: This study investigated the efficacy of motivational interviewing (MI) with cognitive behavioral treatment (CBT) on the behavioral changes of heavy drinkers. Results showed that the intervention significantly increased participants' refusal self-efficacy and awareness of problem-drinking behaviors, leading to reduced perceived benefits of drinking and an enhanced ability to make positive behavioral changes. The simple and easy-to-apply intervention may be valuable for problem drinking prevention strategies in the public health sector, with efforts to disseminate these strategies being worthwhile from a sustainable perspective.

Summary: Internet-delivered cognitive behavioral therapy (ICBT) can improve access to mental health care for students, but high attrition rates and long-term outcomes remain challenges. This study examined the use of pretreatment motivational interviewing (MI) exercises and booster lessons in ICBT for postsecondary students. Results showed that pretreatment MI did not contribute to better treatment completion or engagement, while small between-group effects favored MI for reductions in depression and anxiety after treatment. The low uptake of the self-guided booster limited the conclusions regarding its effectiveness.

Summary: Collective motivational interviewing (CMI) extends the theory of motivational interviewing (MI) by involving the social network. The semi-structured manual-guided CMI, supported by concerned significant others (CSOs), has shown positive outcomes on motivation, social support, drug use frequency, and adherence to treatment. Further studies are needed to assess fidelity and application in populations affected by substance use disorders.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of Project PLUS, a 6-session intervention, in reducing substance use and improving ART adherence among PLWH. However, the results did not show significant intervention effects, which may have been limited by the quasi-experimental design, high quality of standard care at the clinics, or inadequate intervention dose.

Summary: Among MSM living with HIV and using substances, internalized substance use stigma was associated with missed HIV care appointments, partially mediated by avoidance coping. Anticipated SUS also predicted missed appointments, fully mediated by avoidance coping.

Summary: Lifestyle medicine practice can be improved by utilizing interpersonal communication skills such as motivational interviewing and brief action planning. Motivational interviewing involves engaging, focusing, evoking motivation, and planning for change, all conducted in a compassionate, accepting, and empowering environment. Brief action planning utilizes a pragmatic algorithmic approach, using SMART action planning, patient commitment statements, confidence scaling, problem-solving, patient accountability, and follow-up.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the lack of attention given to efficacious treatment and adherence to treatment of compulsive sexual behavior (CSB). The results showed that CSB men who received short-term psycho -dynamic group therapy followed by relapse prevention group (STPGP-RPGT) and pharmacological treatment (PT) experienced significant improvement in sexual compulsivity and adherence. However, methodological limitations prevent firm conclusions on efficacy.

Summary: Youth represent 21% of new HIV diagnoses in the United States, with GBT youth, homeless youth, incarcerated youth, and those engaging in transactional sex being most greatly impacted. Compared to adults, youth have lower levels of awareness of their HIV serostatus, uptake of antiretroviral therapy, and adherence. Researchers have identified research priorities in areas such as innovative interventions, structural changes in health systems, biomedical strategies, mobile technologies, and data-informed policies to address HIV disparities and provide support for GBT youth and youth living with HIV.
