Summary: Codeine is widely used as an analgesic, antitussive, and antidiarrhoeal agent, but its analgesic effect varies greatly due to biotransformation to morphine by CYP2D6. Clinical trials have shown that codeine alone is the least effective in acute postoperative pain, and there is limited evidence to support its use as an antitussive. Additionally, codeine use can potentially lead to abuse and dependence, prompting the WHO to consider removing it from the list of essential medicines for adults.

Summary: Self-esteem is an important psychological resource associated with various health behaviors, and low self-esteem is a real risk factor in the development of depressive disorders. Therefore, considering the role of self-esteem in cancer patients, especially in young adults and those with significant physical impairment following treatment, is justified.

Summary: Arthroscopic treatment is not recommended for subacromial impingement. The condition is often self-limiting and may not require specific treatment. Glucocorticoid injection provides short-term pain relief, but exercise therapy does not provide additional benefit. Subacromial decompression surgery does not have significant benefits in terms of pain, function, or quality of life. Acromioplasty does not improve the outcomes of rotator cuff repair.

Summary: Given the limited economic resources available, prioritizing invasive species for management is crucial. Although global invasive species risk scoring systems exist, the incorporation of fully quantitative impact metrics is currently lacking. However, the emergence of monetary costs as a standardized measure of invasive species impact provides an opportunity for comparing species in risk assessments.

Summary: The rapid economic and industrial growth in Asia has resulted in increased waste production, particularly single-use plastic. This poses a significant challenge for waste management systems, and using plastic waste to produce components for asphalt roads has emerged as a promising solution. However, the implementation of plastic road technology requires thorough evaluation of its environmental and health impacts, quality control measures, recycling limitations, and long-term performance.

Summary: Cancer pain is a significant problem worldwide, and opioids, particularly morphine, are the first-line treatment for moderate to severe cancer pain. Buprenorphine has emerged as an alternative opioid for chronic pain and substance use disorder, but its role as a first-line opioid for cancer pain remains controversial. In this article, three expert clinicians independently discuss the use of buprenorphine in cancer pain and highlight its potential benefits and unique characteristics. They agree that buprenorphine can be used as a first-line opioid in specific populations and mention the need for further research, particularly randomized clinical trials comparing buprenorphine with other opioids in different pain syndromes.

Summary: The combined effect of environmental and spatial filtering on zooplankton communities is explored in this study. The results show that the assembly mechanisms in intermittent river (IR) communities fluctuate more and are more responsive to geographical factors compared to perennial river (PR) communities during different seasons. The compositions of different zooplankton groups are impacted differently by spatial and environmental factors. This study contributes to a better understanding of metacommunity assembly mechanisms in highly dynamic ecosystems.

Summary: Echolalia is often seen as a repetitive behavior, but research suggests that in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, echolalia can actually help with learning and communication development. Therefore, echolalia should be considered as a tool for the development of language skills and semantic generalization, rather than simply being treated as a symptom of impairment.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate and compare the impact of different methods to estimate absorbable iron intake on the nutritional adequacy of diverse menu plans. The results showed that using diet-dependent estimates increased absorbable iron intake, and different dietary types had varying effects on this.
