Summary: Oxidative stress is a key factor in the development of diabetes and its complications. In this study, the protective properties of taxifolin spheroidal form (TS) were examined in a rat model of diabetes. Treatment with TS for 4 weeks resulted in a significant decrease in fasting blood glucose levels and feed intake in diabetic rats. TS also showed a protective effect on the pancreas and liver against the cytotoxic action of streptozotocin.

Summary: Capsaicin exhibits significant hypoglycemic effects by activating the TRPV1 channel, which is lost when the channel is blocked. The hypoglycemic effect of capsaicin is partially attributed to the combined up-regulation of TRPV1 receptors and PDX-1.

Summary: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia, and NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis may contribute to the development of diabetic complications. Quercetin, a natural flavonoid, has been reported to have antioxidant effects on different tissues, but its effects on NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis in diabetic lung are unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the protective effects of quercetin on lung function, oxidative stress, and NLRP3-mediated pyroptosis in Wister rats with STZ-induced DM.

Summary: The study showed that Gliquidone can lower fasting blood glucose and increase insulin sensitivity in diabetic Sur1-- rats, mainly by increasing hepatic glycogen storage and decreasing gluconeogenesis. However, its effects were still weaker compared to metformin.

Summary: This study investigated the metabolic alterations in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis. The results showed differential expression of metabolites in the serum, heart, liver, kidney, cortex, renal lipid, hippocampus, and brown fat tissues of diabetic rats compared to control rats. Metabolic pathway analysis revealed that these alterations mainly involved amino acid metabolism, organic acid metabolism, sugar metabolism, and lipid metabolism.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) on an animal model of diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). The results indicated that AuNPs reduced the pathological conditions associated with DCM, suggesting a therapeutic potential for AuNPs in the treatment of early DCM. Further research is needed to explore the mechanisms by which AuNPs may prevent the development of DCM.

Summary: Astragaloside II (AS II), a novel saponin from Astragalus membranes, shows protective effects on podocyte injury and mitochondrial dysfunction in diabetic nephropathy (DN) by ameliorating albuminuria, renal histopathology, podocyte apoptosis, and restoring the expression of mitochondrial dynamics-related and autophagy-related proteins. Furthermore, AS II increases the expression of PINK1 and Parkin associated with mitophagy, and facilitates antioxidative stress ability via regulation of Nrf2 and Keap1 pathway, providing a potential therapeutic strategy for the treatment of DN.
