Summary: This study utilized potassium permanganate (KMnO4) to simultaneously remove tetracycline (TTC) and Cu(II) from water. The removal efficiency of TTC and Cu(II) was 92.8% and 78.5%, respectively, after 30 minutes of reaction under pH 6.0 and 50 μM of KMnO4. The factors affecting the simultaneous removal of TTC and Cu(II), such as initial concentrations, KMnO4 dose, solution pH, temperature, and water matrix, were comprehensively evaluated. Increasing the KMnO4 dose and reaction temperature improved the removal efficiency. This work provides a cost-effective approach for the simultaneous removal of TTC and Cu(II) from water.

Summary: Many assays require the use of highly concentrated acids or powerful oxidizing agents, which are often incompatible with traditional microfluidic devices. This study introduces a simple and inexpensive reagent storage strategy that allows for long-term compatibility and operation of microdevices with corrosive reagents. The strategy enables the storage of multiple highly corrosive and oxidative reagents simultaneously, expanding the possibilities for integrated multistep assays.

Summary: The study found that UVB radiation enhanced the toxicity of organophosphorus insecticides on tropical amphibian tadpoles, resulting in higher mortality, increased immobility, and decreased total length. This suggests that UVB radiation may be one contributing factor to the decline in amphibian populations in tropical countries. More field studies in areas with agrochemical presence are recommended for a better understanding of the effects of these stressors on amphibians.

Summary: The European and U.S. chemical agencies have listed a large number of chemicals for which knowledge about potential risks to human health and the environment is lacking. Experimental methods cannot fill these data gaps, so in silico approaches and prediction are necessary. This study presents a supervised direct classification model that connects molecular descriptors to toxicity, and it shows promising results in experimental validation.

Summary: This survey investigated the influence of ultrasound (US) and potassium permanganate (KMnO4) co-pretreatment on anaerobic digestion of waste activated sludge (WAS). The results showed that the co-treatment significantly increased the cumulative methane yield and improved the biodegradability of soluble organics. The analysis also revealed that US + KMnO4 pretreatment enhanced the biochemical methane potential, hydrolysis rate, and relative abundance of functional microorganisms associated with anaerobic digestion.
