Summary: This study investigates the relationship between the environment and development in China's economy and reveals important findings such as an inverted U-shaped relationship, a positive association between urbanization and environmental deterioration, and a negative association between good governance and carbon emissions. The results highlight the need for revised environmental regulation policies.

Summary: The study revealed a quadratic relationship between income growth and ecological footprint, supporting the validity of the Environmental Kuznets Curve. Population growth in the European region was found to be less severe compared to intensive energy consumption, suggesting the adoption of policies to restrict emissions, deforestation, and water pollution for environmental sustainability.

Summary: By compiling a unique shadow banking dataset for 24 European Union countries, this study examines the determinants of shadow banking in both Old and New EU member countries. The findings show significant differences in the impact of various macro-financial shocks on the shadow banking sector between the two groups. The differences can be explained by the different nature of shadow banking in each group.

Summary: Through fiscal policy, the government can influence businesses and individuals to regulate their behavior. This study examines the impact of direct taxation on economic growth in two main clusters of countries with different levels of fiscal efficiency. The results show that corporate income taxes have a significant negative effect on economic growth for countries with both high and limited fiscal efficiency. Additionally, personal income tax is associated with lower economic growth in countries with limited fiscal efficiency. Therefore, lowering direct taxation can have multiple positive effects on the economy.

Summary: This study aims to explore gender inequality in European countries using spatial panel data models, which take into account unobserved effects and various factors. The analysis is based on panel data covering 41 European countries from 1990 to 2020. The findings indicate that spatial effects play a significant role in gender inequality, and the FE-SAC model is determined to be the most efficient and consistent among the panel data regression models. The main results show that factors such as life expectancy, education, democracy, and CO2 emissions have varying effects on gender inequality.

Summary: This study examines the interplay between income inequality, carbon dioxide emissions, renewable energy consumption, and economic growth in Belt and Road initiative countries from 2002 to 2019. The analysis employs various econometric models and finds that income inequality and renewable energy consumption decrease, while economic growth, foreign direct investment, and financial development increase carbon emissions. The relationship between carbon emissions, renewable energy consumption, and economic growth varies across different models. The findings highlight the policy implications for income distribution, energy use, environmental quality, and economic growth in the sample countries, emphasizing the need to prioritize renewable energy sources.

Summary: This paper empirically explores the relationship between environmental quality and human-health-capital formation. The results show that high CO2 emissions, inflation, and unemployment rates increase health expenditure. Higher income can afford higher healthcare costs. Therefore, policymakers should take measures to reduce CO2 emissions and improve human-health-capital formation to support long-term sustainable economic growth.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between happiness and two economic variables, income and unemployment, in the short-run and long-run. Using data from 11 European countries over a period of 36 years from 1985 to 2020, the study finds that both income and unemployment have a significant impact on happiness levels. Higher income leads to higher happiness in the long-run, but the short-run impact is weak. Unemployment decreases people's happiness levels in both the short and long-run, emphasizing the need for policies focused on job creation in Europe.

Summary: One of the key obstacles to building public consensus regarding environmental problems is the diverse valuation of environmental benefits by different individuals and regions. This study finds that people's perceptions of environmental benefits are determined by social indicators and individual conditions. As these conditions improve, people tend to prioritize the intangible environmental benefits.

Summary: Developed countries have implemented environmental taxes, energy taxes, and emission limits to mitigate the negative effects of economic activities. The Environmental Policy Stringency Index (EPS index) is used as a measurement technique to evaluate the stringency of environmental policies. This study explores the impact of the EPS index on economic activities in 20 European countries from 1995 to 2020. The findings indicate that an increase in the EPS index leads to a decline in economic growth at the aggregate level and negatively affects the industry sector.

Summary: This study conducted the first survey experiment to explore public attitudes towards the realization rule for capital gains. The findings indicate that the majority of respondents prefer to wait until the sale of stocks for taxing gains, but surprisingly, there is also strong support for taxing gains on assets at sale or transfer. Additionally, the study reveals that participants' stated views are only moderately influenced by observing a policy debate, while mental accounting, status quo effects, and a desire to tax consumption rather than income are identified as potential explanations for these attitudes.

Summary: Greenhouse gas emissions related to UK food consumption have significantly decreased over the past 20 years, primarily driven by reductions in household food budgets and evolving food preferences. While relative price dynamics and demographic trends have a smaller impact, policy interventions targeting consumer preferences could be an effective tool in further reducing food-related emissions.

Summary: This paper investigates the importance of public cultural expenditure for the efficiency and productivity of the performing arts (PA) firms. The empirical results show that PA firms are technically inefficient and could increase their artistic output between 32 and 42% through improving efficiency. The study also finds that public spending on culture increases the efficiency of PA firms, contrary to the common belief.

Summary: The innovations brought about by information and communication technology (ICT) are dramatically changing the way visual arts are produced and consumed. A study using the 2012 USA Survey of Public Participation in the Arts found that age does not play a role in the form of visual arts consumed, but there are differences based on race, gender, family background, and occupation. Furthermore, the study discovered a trade-off between online and onsite visits, with online attendance being a way for consumers to overcome time constraints and costs associated with visiting physical museums.
