Summary: Recently, water desalination has become crucial for supplying drinking water in many countries. Desalination systems now rely on renewable energy resources such as geothermal, solar, tidal, and wind power. However, the intermittent nature and changeable intensity of renewable energy have limited their wide applications, leading to the introduction of energy storage systems in the desalination process. This work provides a comprehensive review of desalination methods and technologies, as well as the concepts of both thermal and electrical energy storage. The integration of energy storage with water desalination systems based on renewable energy offers better economic and environmental performance compared to conventional desalination systems, ensuring a constant supply of fresh water throughout the day.

Summary: The rapid economic expansion in China has resulted in increased resource consumption and carbon emissions, posing a serious ecological threat. This study examines the role of mineral resources, green financing, and renewable energy in promoting ecological sustainability in China from Q1-2000 to Q4-2020. Using the Bootstrap Autoregressive Distributed Lagged (BARDL) model, the research finds a long-term relationship between green financing, renewable energy, mineral resources, and economic growth. It shows that renewable energy and green investment projects contribute to long-term reduction of carbon emissions, while mineral resource extraction and economic growth increase carbon emissions.

Summary: This paper investigates the relationship between natural resources and renewable energy consumption using robust econometric modelling on a large sample of 162 developed and developing countries between 1990 and 2021. The results show a positive and significant association between natural resources and renewable energy consumption, indicating that the extraction of natural resources promotes renewable energy consumption. Contrary to prior studies, oil-producing countries exhibit high renewable energy consumption. Furthermore, the relationship between natural resources and renewable energy consumption is stronger in developed countries compared to developing countries. These findings contribute to the debate on the role of natural resources in the greening of economic recovery.

Summary: In Jordan, there is a tendency for excessive energy consumption after installing residential photovoltaic systems, which can overload the national electric grid. This research found that 88% of households experienced an increase in energy consumption after installing PV systems, with an average increase of 41%. The average share of self-consumed energy out of the total generated by PV systems was 27.7%.

Summary: Pakistan has been struggling with electricity shortages since 2005, hindering the country's growth in agriculture, industry, and services sectors. This study used LEAP & REG; software to forecast Pakistan's energy mix from 2022-2050 under baseline and transformation scenarios. The baseline scenario focuses on increasing hydroelectric power, while the transformation scenario emphasizes the use of biomass. The study recommends the transformation scenario due to retiring hydro plants and limited budget for new constructions. By utilizing biomass-based distributed power generation, Pakistan could generate enough sustainable energy to meet future demand.

Summary: Sustainability ensures well-being for people and communities worldwide and helps shape the world's present and future. A global transformation is required by adopting renewable energy sources to achieve sustainability. This study examines sustainability trends in G20 countries from 1992 to 2018 using indicators such as ecological footprints, natural resources, renewable energy, and non-renewable energy. The results show that the use of renewable energy positively impacts environmental sustainability in the long run, while non-renewable energy and natural resources contribute to the negative shift in sustainable development. Therefore, G20 countries should promote renewable energy to support the United Nations' agenda for sustainable development.

Summary: This study introduces a mathematical formulation of energy storage systems into a generation capacity expansion framework and finds that dynamic parameters of batteries do not significantly impact the optimal generation portfolio, while battery degradation leads to substantially different generation expansion outcomes. Battery energy storage is economically viable for 2020 only under strict carbon emission constraints, but by 2050, it becomes an attractive option for deep decarbonization given projected technology advances and cost reductions.
