Summary: This study aimed to investigate the longitudinal trajectories of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in newly diagnosed nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients. The study identified four distinct HRQoL trajectories and found that older age, advanced T stage, and higher EBV DNA level before treatment were significantly associated with poor HRQoL trajectories. Further research is needed to examine the generalizability of these trajectories and their associations with psychosocial and survival outcomes.

Summary: In the KEYNOTE-426 trial, pembrolizumab + axitinib demonstrated improvements in overall survival, progression-free survival, and objective response rate compared to sunitinib monotherapy for advanced renal cell carcinoma. However, there were no significant differences in health-related quality of life outcomes between the pembrolizumab + axitinib and sunitinib arms, except for time to confirmed deterioration measured by the FKSI-DRS questionnaire.

Summary: The study found that symptom severity, pain intensity, and pain catastrophizing decreased in chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) patients over a 12-month period, while HRQoL and levels of somatic symptoms, depressive symptoms, and anxiety remained stable. Lower baseline levels of somatic symptoms were associated with an increase in physical HRQoL, and lower baseline levels of depressive symptoms, anxiety, and pain catastrophizing were associated with an increase in mental HRQoL.

Summary: This study found that personality characteristics have an impact on the long-term well-being and health-related quality of life (HrQoL) of breast cancer survivors. It also revealed that temperament and character affect the dimensions of HrQoL through pain-related and psychological factors in these survivors. These findings have important implications for clinical interventions and effective pain management to enhance the psychosocial well-being and HrQoL of breast cancer survivors.

Summary: This study investigated the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of pediatric patients with beta thalassemia major (beta-TM) after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), compared to those treated with blood transfusions. The results showed that HSCT was associated with a higher HRQoL in various domains, and there was no significant difference in HRQoL between sibling or unrelated HLA-matched HSCT. The study highlights the importance of considering HSCT as a treatment option for pediatric patients with beta-TM and provides valuable information for physicians to counsel patients and parents.

Summary: Changes in early postoperative health-related quality of life in patients with gastrointestinal cancer were investigated in this study. Physical functioning, pain, vitality, and social role functioning decreased significantly 4 weeks after surgery, while mental health improved. Factors such as gender, cancer stage, and exercise capacity influenced these changes.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) related cirrhosis patients and to analyze the specific differences in HRQoL dimensions. Results showed that the physiological and psychological HRQoL of cirrhotic patients were lower compared to non-cirrhotic patients, and were negatively correlated with liver stiffness. Factors such as positive HBV DNA viral load and HCC family history were found to be independent factors associated with HRQoL in HBV-related cirrhosis patients. Different factors were identified to affect specific physiological and psychological HRQoL in cirrhosis patients.

Summary: The study aimed to determine whether follow-up protocols for pT1 renal cell carcinoma patients should be based solely on stage and type of primary surgery. Results showed that validated risk factors should also be considered in determining imaging methods and avoid unnecessary imaging, with a follow-up of more than 3 years recommended for patients with pT1 tumors after RN. A novel follow-up strategy is proposed.

Summary: This study investigated the differences in transcriptome, miRNA, and proteomic data in low-risk tumors progressing and non-progressing in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) patients. The researchers identified differentially expressed proteins, mRNAs, and miRNAs between progressing and non-progressing tumors. They developed a classifier using a combination of proteins, genes, and miRNAs that effectively differentiated progressing and non-progressing ccRCC, potentially aiding in the early identification of low-risk patients requiring closer surveillance and treatment adjustments.

Summary: This study investigated temperature profiles in the renal pelvis and parenchyma during TFL and Ho:YAG laser activation in an ex-vivo porcine model. It was found that higher laser power settings led to higher temperatures, and larger laser fibers caused significantly higher temperatures. These findings could help guide safe power settings for ureteroscopic lithotripsy, although further clinical studies are needed for confirmation.

Summary: The incidence of paediatric kidney stone disease is increasing, leading to a demand for endourological interventions. However, there are limited paediatric-specific nomograms and scoring systems available. The nomograms designed for shockwave lithotripsy show the strongest evidence, while adult tools may not be suitable for paediatric use. Further development of paediatric-specific tools is necessary.

Summary: Management of encrustation of ureteral stents can be successfully achieved with minimally invasive methods such as ureteroscopy and/or percutaneous nephrolithotomy, recommending the use of a validated tool for grading burden of encrustation. Patient counselling and operative planning play crucial roles, along with identifying high-risk patient groups like pregnancy and implementing prevention strategies.
