A new approach to anti-neutrino running in long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments

We study the possibility to replace the anti-neutrino run of a long baseline neutrino oscillation experiment, with anti-neutrinos from muon decay at rest. The low energy of these neutrinos allows the use of inverse beta decay for detection in a Gadolinium-doped water Cerenkov detector. We show that this approach yields a factor of five times larger anti-neutrino event sample. The resulting discovery reaches in theta(13), the mass hierarchy and leptonic CP violation are compared with those from a conventional superbeam experiment with combined neutrino and anti-neutrino running. We find that this approach yields a greatly improved reach for CP violation and theta(13) while leaving the ability to measure the mass hierarchy intact.

Summary: The reactor antineutrino spectra resulting from the fission of U-235 and Pu-239 were jointly analyzed by the Daya Bay and PROSPECT Collaborations. The analysis showed consistency between the U-235 spectrum measurements from the two experiments and improved the uncertainty of the U-235 spectral shape. The unfolded U-235 and Pu-239 antineutrino energy spectra can serve as a reference for other reactor antineutrino experiments.

Summary: Astrophysical neutrinos are important for studying astrophysics and high-energy physics. They have high energies and can probe fundamental physics at scales ranging from the TeV scale to the EeV scale and beyond. By studying their production mechanisms and propagation, we can gain insights into physics within and beyond the Standard Model. Neutrinos also provide unique information about extreme non-thermal sources in regions opaque to electromagnetic radiation.

Summary: This study presents the results of a search for neutrinos coincident with 22 unique, nonrepeating fast radio bursts and one repeating fast radio burst. Utilizing seven years of cascade events data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, no statistically significant clustering of neutrinos was observed. Upper limits on the time-integrated neutrino flux emitted by fast radio bursts were set for different time windows.

Summary: Using data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, this study searched for high-energy neutrino emission from gravitational-wave events detected by the advanced LIGO and Virgo detectors during their third observing run. The researchers conducted low-latency follow-up searches on public candidate events and archival searches on confident events reported in catalogs. They also performed an extended search for neutrino emission from neutron star mergers on longer timescales and conducted follow-up searches on the candidate optical counterpart of a specific event. Multiple methods were used, including unbinned maximum likelihood analysis and Bayesian analysis with astrophysical priors. No significant neutrino emission was observed, and upper limits were determined for the neutrino flux and total isotropic equivalent energy emitted in high-energy neutrinos.

Summary: By analyzing the data from the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, we conducted a search for neutrinos from the brightest GRB 221009A. No significant signal deviation from the expected background was found, leading to stringent upper limits on the neutrino emission from this source.

Summary: No significant correlation between neutrinos and cataloged supernovae was found. Upper limits on the total energy emitted in neutrinos were derived for stripped-envelope supernovae and type IIn supernovae. Core-collapse supernovae of types IIn and stripped-envelope supernovae can both be ruled out as the dominant source of the diffuse neutrino flux.

Discriminating between Lorentz violation and non-standard interactions using core-passing atmospheric neutrinos at INO-ICAL

Summary: Precision measurements of neutrino oscillation parameters have played a significant role in the search for sub-leading effects beyond the Standard Model in neutrino oscillation experiments. In particular, Lorentz violation and non-standard interactions have been extensively studied as potential scenarios that can impact neutrino oscillations. This study highlights that these two scenarios can simulate each other's effects at a long-baseline experiment, making it challenging to distinguish between them. However, observations of atmospheric neutrinos with varying baselines and encounters with density changes at the core-mantle boundary can break this degeneracy.

Locating the core-mantle boundary using oscillations of atmospheric neutrinos

Summary: Atmospheric neutrinos can provide information about the internal structure of Earth through weak interactions, which complements seismic studies and gravitational measurements. This study shows the importance of using atmospheric neutrino oscillations to locate the core-mantle boundary (CMB). The ICAL detector has the capability to efficiently observe core-passing neutrinos, which have undergone resonance effects due to Earth matter. By analyzing different three-layered Earth models, the author demonstrates that ICAL can determine the location of CMB with high precision.

Summary: This study presents a dedicated search for extended neutrino sources in the Galaxy using 10 years of IceCube data. No evidence for time-integrated neutrino emission from potential extended sources in the Galactic plane is found. The strongest constraint is placed on hadronic emission from several regions in the galaxy.

Constraining Lorentz invariance violation with next-generation long-baseline experiments

Summary: Unified theories such as string theory and loop quantum gravity allow the Lorentz Invariance Violation (LIV) at the Planck Scale. This study investigates the modification of transition probabilities in DUNE and Hyper-K experiments in the presence of LIV parameters. It explores the correlations between LIV parameters and 3 nu oscillation parameters, and provides upper bounds on CPT-violating and CPT-conserving LIV parameters using standalone DUNE, Hyper-K, and their combination.

Present and future constraints on flavor-dependent long-range interactions of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos

Summary: The discovery of new, flavor-dependent neutrino interactions beyond the Standard Model is important. This study focuses on interactions generated by gauged, abelian lepton-number symmetries, which introduce a new potential sourced by electrons and neutrons that can impact neutrino flavor oscillations. The researchers revisit and improve the constraints on these interactions using the flavor composition of high-energy astrophysical neutrinos and estimate the potential constraints that can be placed on the coupling strength of these interactions.

Probing dark matter inside Earth using atmospheric neutrino oscillations at INO-ICAL

Summary: The weak interactions of atmospheric neutrinos can provide insights into the interior of Earth's core, complementing gravitational and seismic measurements. By measuring neutrino oscillations, the presence of dark matter inside the core can be probed uniquely by determining the proportion of baryonic matter. Our findings suggest that the ICAL detector at INO, with muon charge identification capability, can be sensitive to dark matter at approximately 5%-6% of Earth's mass, with a 1σ level detection at 500 kt yr exposure. While the dark matter profile cannot be identified using neutrino oscillation experiments, the baryonic matter profile within the core can be probed using atmospheric neutrinos.

Enhancing sensitivity to leptonic CP violation using complementarity among DUNE, T2HK, and T2HKK

Summary: After the discovery of non-zero θ(13), experiments have achieved unprecedented precision on neutrino mass-mixing parameters, setting the stage for high confidence level discovery of leptonic CP violation (LCPV) in next-generation long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments. The combination of the DUNE and T2HK experiments can enhance the sensitivity to LCPV, suppressing the θ(23)-δ(CP) degeneracy. The proposed T2HKK setup in combination with DUNE can further increase the CP coverage to over 80% with only half of their nominal exposures.
