Summary: This paper evaluates the impact of climate policy uncertainty on renewable and non-renewable energy consumption in the United States. The study finds that economic growth promotes renewable energy demand while crude oil prices reduce it. In contrast, climate policy uncertainty reduces non-renewable energy demand. The paper provides policy implications for reducing non-renewable energy consumption and promoting renewable energy use in the United States.

Summary: The study finds that the short-term own-price elasticity of US residential electricity demand is close to zero, while the long-term elasticity estimates are decreasing over time. Ignoring the cross-sectional dependence of panel data tends to significantly increase long-run price elasticity estimates, and mismatching the availability of price information with consumption decisions leads to anomalous price elasticity estimates.

Summary: This paper examines the relationship between land demands for biomass heating and ecosystem services. By utilizing residues from forestry and the wood processing industry, sustainable supply of woody biomass is possible. Therefore, the use of pellets and wood chips for heating purposes should be expanded.

Summary: The paper focuses on a typical management problem faced by a large power producer, who has partial influence on the market price. It explores the decision-making process of committing generation to fixed-price bilateral contracts or the spot market, as well as distributing production among different plants. The study formulates a risk management problem by optimizing the profit function with a trade-off between expectation and conditional value at risk. Uncertainties, including demand, renewables generation, and fuel costs, are considered, and the paper also models the futures price to reflect the advantage of the power producer. A MILP formulation is provided, and a simulation using data from the Spanish power market is conducted to analyze the solution.

Summary: This paper investigates the expansion of renewable resources in distribution systems based on the zero energy concept. Different scenarios are designed to determine the optimal location and sizing of wind turbines and photovoltaics. A multiobjective linear programming and an incentive-based demand response program are suggested to minimize investment cost and environmental pollution. The uncertainties of renewable resources are modeled and the results show that a combination of wind turbines and photovoltaics can achieve a zero energy structure with increased investment cost, and the participation of responsive loads can decrease the investment cost.

Summary: This paper highlights the role of a microgrid in providing ancillary services support, focusing on the demand response program (DRP). It discusses the impact of netload variations, consumer incentives, and storage system availability on the system performance. Simulation results demonstrate the importance of demand response in improving system performance during dynamic conditions and reducing power generation ramping of conventional generators during periods of power stress.

Summary: Ancillary services, such as spinning reserves, can increase the profitability of concentrating solar power plants by selling spinning reserves in addition to electric energy. A study using a dispatch optimization model and the System Advisor Model showed that selling spinning reserves in the ancillary service market can increase plant profitability by up to 7% with perfect knowledge of pricing and solar resource availability. This suggests that spinning reserve markets offer significant value streams to concentrating solar power plants with thermal energy storage capabilities.

Summary: The panel data analysis shows that industrial demand for natural gas in the United States has relatively small price elasticities, supporting the continuation of energy efficiency standards and demand-side management programs. Different price responsiveness among industrial customers suggests using demand response programs to efficiently allocate limited supply during natural gas shortages.
