Summary: Distributed methods based on sensitivity can effectively control PV inverters to prevent overvoltage issues in distribution grids with high penetration of PVs. Local droop setting following IEEE-1547, in combination with reactive power control and APC, can eliminate overvoltage. The sensitivity-based approach outperforms in voltage performance index compared to the maximum allowed upper bound.

Summary: This article presents a topology, working principle, and coordinated control strategy for an embedded DC power flow controller (e-DCPFC). The proposed e-DCPFC is directly integrated in the modular multilevel converter (MMC) topology, and it does not require isolation transformers or external power supply. Experimental results from a lab prototype validate the performance of the proposed topology under typical working conditions.

Summary: This paper proposes a centralized tractable control scheme based on OPF that optimizes the real-time operation of active distribution networks, while also considering voltage support as an ancillary service to the transmission network. By embedding Switzerland's current voltage support requirements as constraints and investigating the potential benefits of ancillary services provision under different operational modes of DER inverters, the performance of the proposed scheme is demonstrated using a combined HV-MV-LV test system.

Summary: The paper introduces an approach for online centralized control in active distribution networks, combining PI control unit with CCU based on MPC principle, designed to accommodate increasing penetration of distributed generation. The controller helps in continuously meeting TSO's reactive power requirements, maintaining voltage profile, minimizing total power losses, and complying with DNO's operation requirements. It works in real-time applications and activates CCU only during voltage violations or significant changes, reducing computational burden.

Summary: Distribution systems are increasingly complex due to the growth of distributed energy resources and electric vehicles. Photovoltaic inverters and power curtailment are commonly used to mitigate voltage-related problems, but the flexibility of EVs can be harnessed to avoid curtailment and save energy. This study presents a decentralized voltage control algorithm that takes into account both active and reactive power compensation from PV inverters and EVs, providing an effective solution to voltage issues.

Summary: This article addresses the problem of optimizing voltage profiles in distribution networks and proposes a two-stage optimization method. The network is partitioned into voltage control zones (VCZs) and a distributed algorithm is applied to optimize the voltage profiles in each VCZ to achieve the global optimum of the system. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Summary: This paper explores the application of a power electronic device called the power router to an electrical grid. It defines the concept and conditions for interconnection of the power router grid, proposes a mathematical modelling methodology, and analyzes its operational requirements and flexibility. Two case studies are presented to demonstrate the practical application of the power router grid.

Summary: This study aims to find the optimal setups of voltage control devices in different configurations of low voltage (LV) grids with strong photovoltaic (PV) diffusion. The devices are simulated independently, considering objectives of voltage quality, grid losses, and OLTC lifespan increase. Multiple simulations are performed to calculate the optimal devices setups, and sensitivity analysis is conducted by changing the weights attributed to each objective function.

Summary: This paper focuses on the global optimality of the relaxed solutions of a multi-timescale co-optimization problem. The proposed co-optimization framework involves the multi-timescale co-optimization of distribution feeder reconfiguration with the optimal dispatch of traditional voltage regulating devices and utility-scale distributed energy resources. The optimal switching plan is computed on a daily basis. The proposed multi-timescale co-optimization model is formulated as a mixed-integer second-order cone program to achieve global optimum. The objective is to reduce power losses and improve load balancing. The simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and global optimality of the relaxed solutions computed by the co-optimization framework.
