Summary: This study discovers that illumination of the substrate benefits the performance of solar cells with III-V active layers and germanium substrates, despite minimal contribution to current and voltage. This phenomenon has important implications for device characterization, development of solar cells for conditions lacking long-wavelength light, and prediction of device performance under different spectra.

Summary: Perimeter recombination is one of the causes for the nonuniform luminescent coupling effect in III-V multijunction solar cells. Electrical passivation of the multijunction solar cell perimeter can significantly improve current collection and homogeneity, resulting in an increase in absolute conversion efficiency.

Summary: A simple method for manufacturing flexible III-V inverted metamorphic solar cells using low-temperature transfer technology is proposed, allowing for easy bonding and debonding with minimal residual stress. An optical model is constructed to design anti-reflection coatings for the cells, resulting in successful mass production of lightweight, low area-density flexible solar cells. Further optimization of the GaAs middle subcell is suggested for improved performance, with the technique showing promise for mass production of cost-effective, high-efficiency large-size solar cells.

Summary: Spectral splitting technology is used to prevent overheating and efficiency loss in photovoltaic cells. The technology splits the solar spectrum into two portions, with one portion generating electricity and the other generating heat. This study presents the design and performance evaluation of a novel PV-thermal system based on a compound parabolic concentrator and a selective absorptive fluid-based optical filter. Experimental findings show that all CPC-PV systems with an optical filter have a greater electrical efficiency of about 17% compared to systems without a filter and bare PV cells.
