Summary: Based on comprehensive data, this study evaluated the glucose and energy balances of dairy cows before, during, and after the diagnosis of production diseases. It found that glucose availability dropped during the disease phase, leading to potential competition between immune defense and milk synthesis. The reduced dry matter intake and milk yield during disease resulted in decreased glucose availability. Strategies to increase glucogenic carbon availability for immune function during disease in dairy cows should be investigated.

Summary: Very early onset inflammatory bowel disease is a classification that includes both classic IBD and monogenic disorder, occurring before the age of 6. VEO-IBD patients have significant clinical differences compared to older children and adults with IBD, including more severe disease and often unresponsiveness to conventional therapy. Different histologic patterns can be observed in gastrointestinal biopsies, suggesting either IBD-like or monogenic disorder.

Summary: Microcephaly and chorioretinopathy are inherited genetic disorders characterized by lacunar atrophy in the retina and choroid. We present two cases of Mexican patients with these conditions and discuss the differential diagnoses. Both patients had prior diagnoses of microcephaly and language delay, and genetic tests revealed mutations in the TUBGCP4 gene, confirming the diagnosis of microcephaly and chorioretinopathy. Retinal lesions showed variability, and the presence of chorioretinal lacunae and genetic testing can aid in the accurate diagnosis of this disorder.

Summary: Urticaria is an inflammatory skin disorder characterized by the presence of itchy swelling called wheals or hives. It can be caused by immunological or non-immunological mechanisms, and can mimic other skin conditions, making accurate diagnosis crucial. This review provides clinicians with a useful tool to correctly suspect and identify these conditions.

Summary: This paper focuses on the age-adjusted effective elastic modulus in high performance concrete under sustained tensile loading conditions at early age. A novel experimental approach is proposed to capture the evolution of this modulus, and an empirical model is suggested to quantify the reduction factors profiles. The proposed approach offers a convenient and adaptable method for assessing early-age concrete behavior.

Summary: The study proposes a high-quality image generation method for leaf disease diagnosis, which significantly improves diagnostic performance; experimental results show that the performance on an unseen test dataset is boosted by over 21% compared to the baseline model, and over 2% better than a model trained with images generated by ESRGAN.

Summary: This study found that a multiparametric ECG score including short PR interval, prolonged QRS duration, RBBB, R in aVL >= 1.1 mV and inferior ST depression independently predicted AFD diagnosis. Evaluating these ECG parameters can support the diagnosis of AFD.

Summary: The differential diagnosis of prostate abnormalities covers a wide range of common and less common conditions; recent advances in MRI technology and imaging guidelines have greatly improved the ability to distinguish common abnormalities; radiologists need to consider various factors when diagnosing prostate abnormalities for an accurate assessment.

Summary: The study aimed to assess the proportion of MM2-type sCJD and describe the clinical features of MM2C and MM2T-type sCJD in a Chinese cohort. Among the 209 patients with sCJD, 24.4% were diagnosed with MM2-type sCJD, with 44 cases of MM2C-type and 7 cases of MM2T-type. The absence of typical sCJD symptoms within 6 months was found in 61.3% of MM2C-type sCJD patients on admission, but all had cortical hyperintensity on DWI. MM2C-type sCJD was associated with slower disease progression and the absence of typical clinical features, while MM2T-type had distinct characteristics such as higher male proportion, earlier age of onset, longer disease duration, and higher incidence of bilateral thalamic hypometabolism/hypoperfusion.

Summary: This study examined the effects of precalving administration of a continuous-release monensin capsule on post-calving milk fatty acid profile and the accuracy of fatty acids as a biomarker for early identification of cows with elevated blood plasma nonesterified fatty acids. The results showed that specific threshold values for the identification of cows with elevated NEFA and HYK could only be applicable within similar feeding conditions and rumen environment, highlighting the importance of considering individual cow factors in interpreting biomarker results.

Summary: Dermoscopy is valuable for diagnosing palmoplantar psoriasis and eczema, with fewer differences in dermoscopic features between the two. White scales and regular dots and globular vessels indicate psoriasis, while yellow scales and irregular atypical vessels suggest eczema in the palmoplantar region.
