Summary: The main objective of this paper is to analyze the rainfall regimes of Pernambuco, a northeastern Brazilian state, based on seasonality indices and the replicability index. The results show a statistically significant linear correlation between the indices and the geographical longitude. The study also reveals changes in the rainfall regime over time, with the Sertao region experiencing a shift towards extreme seasonality and longer dry periods.

Summary: By analyzing the microstructures of ultramylonite, pseudotachylyte, and cataclasite, it was found that they exhibit brittle-ductile fabrics, suggesting that pseudotachylyte was formed through seismic ruptures along discrete planes between the host granodiorite and ultramylonite.

Summary: The study aimed to isolate, identify, and report the species richness of Trichoderma species in the soil of different regions of Pernambuco, Brazil. DNA sequences of 56 isolates were analyzed, revealing two sections, Trichoderma (35 isolates) and Pachybasidium (21 isolates), and a total of nine species, including possible new species. The findings indicate the potential for agricultural applications due to the diversity of Trichoderma species in Pernambuco soils.

Summary: Hematological studies in crocodilians are important for evolutionary diagnosis and disease control. This study aimed to obtain reference intervals for the hemogram of Caiman latirostris in the wild. The findings suggest that hematological parameters are similar among populations, but differences may exist in mean corpuscular volume values between adult and juvenile individuals.

Summary: The state of Pernambuco in Brazil, particularly its Northeast region, is prone to extreme hydrological events such as heavy rain and drought. This study analyzed the spatiotemporal variability of rainfall in Pernambuco and examined the occurrence of extreme rainfall events. The results indicated that the state's eastern region experiences more distributed precipitation throughout the year, while severe droughts occurred in most regions during the 1990s. The study also found a possible change in rainfall patterns in recent years, warranting further research to determine the causes. Overall, the trends in rainfall were not significant, except for certain regions.

Summary: The objective of this study was to analyze changes in land use and land cover in the municipality of Floresta, Pernambuco State, Brazil, using multitemporal Landsat images. The land use maps were generated using the Bhattacharya classifier, and the accuracy of the data was validated using the Kappa index and field data. The results showed significant changes in the forest and exposed soil classes, with an increase in the forest class and a decrease in exposed soil. These changes are attributed to the interaction between climate, human activities, and the quality of the satellite images used.

Summary: Although primary education in Brazil has achieved universal enrollment levels, the management of the educational system is decentralized with high heterogeneity at the municipal level. This study conducts an efficiency analysis of approximately 10,600 Brazilian elementary public schools, finding a relatively high average efficiency score but significant disparities across different regions. Socioeconomic background indicators play an important role in determining efficiency scores.

Summary: The vulnerability of developing countries to climate change, especially in terms of food and income security, has been highlighted by IPCC. In a semiarid region of Pernambuco state in Brazil, where high temperatures, low humidity, and high solar radiation are prevalent, sheep farming is a major activity among local families. This study used non-parametric statistics and kriging maps of the temperature and humidity index (THI) to identify regions in Pernambuco that are suitable for different breeds of sheep. The findings successfully identified strategic development regions with high potential for sheep breeding.

Summary: This study investigated the frequency and levels of AFM(1) in coalho and mozzarella cheese samples (n = 28) from the main cheese-processing plants in Araripe Sertao and Agreste in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, using HPLC. All samples (100%) had detectable levels of AFM(1), with concentrations ranging from 0.026 to 0.132 mu g/kg. Higher levels of AFM(1) were observed in artisanal mozzarella cheeses. However, none of the cheese samples exceeded the maximum permissible limits established for AFM(1) in cheese in Brazil and European countries.

Summary: This study found minor nickel contamination in the city's drinking water supply, with a higher tendency for exceedance of standard in weekend and summer samples. Older schools with age above 50 years and schools with a higher student population (>= 500) were more likely to have nickel contamination. Further research is needed to identify the source of nickel, whether it is within the dispenser or in the distribution system.

Summary: Soil nitrogen dynamics can be evaluated through analysis of the natural abundances of N isotope ratio mass spectrometry (delta 15N) in terrestrial ecosystems. This study assessed the variation of soil delta 15N in three physiographic regions in Northeast Brazil along a climatic gradient. The results showed that soil delta 15N was influenced by clay content, pH, temperature, rainfall, and evapotranspiration, indicating differences in nitrogen dynamics across climatic zones.

Summary: This study focused on assessing the vulnerability to extinction of lizard species in Pernambuco, Brazil. The majority of species did not show vulnerability, while 11 lizards were considered unsustainable with three demonstrating a very high degree of vulnerability. The study detected 16 threats of anthropogenic origin for lizard populations in the region, and half of the species had a low number of embryos per litter. The ranking of vulnerabilities was based on fecundity, distribution, and microhabitat preference, while threats were determined by habitat status and distribution in protected areas.
