The biomimetic hierarchical surfaces inhibited M1 macrophage-mediated inflammatory reactions and decreased osteoclast formation. In vivo, the implants with hierarchical surfaces underwent rapid and early osseointegration. This study offers a novel biomimetic strategy for implant-bone osseointegration in osteoporotic patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the potential effects of alpha-ketoglutarate (alpha-KG) on implant osseointegration in an osteoporotic mouse model. The results showed that the supplementation of alpha-KG in drinking water enhanced dental implant osseointegration in ovariectomized mice, with increased osteogenic and autophagic activity, and decreased osteoclast differentiation and cell apoptosis. Moreover, alpha-KG-treated bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells exhibited enhanced proliferation, survival, colony formation, and osteogenic differentiation, as well as autophagic activity. Therefore, systemic alpha-KG supplementation effectively prevents the failure of dental implant osseointegration in mice under an osteoporotic state.

Summary: In this study, the genomic characteristics of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) were analyzed, and differentially expressed genes (DEGs) related to autophagy were identified. A modified titanium substrate was designed to upregulate HIF-1 alpha expression in mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) through receptors of TGF-beta and TNFR. The upregulated HIF-1 alpha in MSCs promoted autophagy and regulated MSCs proliferation and osteogenic differentiation, while in HUVECs, it accelerated angiogenesis by increasing VEGF expression. The modified titanium substrate enhanced the integration effect of the implant and reta\rded the deterioration of ONFH.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of vitamin D3 on spatial memory and cytokine levels in geriatric rats. The results showed that vitamin D3 supplementation improved spatial memory in rats aged 6, 13, and 22 months, and it also improved spatial memory in 31-month-old rats at a high dose. The lower dose mainly regulated inflammatory cytokines in the frontal cortex. These findings suggest that vitamin D3 may have an immunomodulatory effect on aging.

High condylectomy in early adolescence could terminate the disease, while continuous follow-up is required for further aesthetic improvement.
