Summary: Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a rare disease characterized by abnormal bone formation in connective tissues and painful flare-ups. Garetosmab, an activin A-blocking antibody, can prevent the formation of new lesions but does not significantly impact the activity of pre-existing lesions.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the dose-dependent effects of blackcurrant supplementation on preventing bone loss in adult women. The results showed that blackcurrant supplementation decreased the loss of whole-body bone mineral density and increased the marker of bone formation, P1NP. Further studies with larger samples and different skeletal conditions are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: The study found that resveratrol supplementation significantly increased mRNA expression levels of p53 and p21 genes, as well as reduced serum levels of sCD163/sTWEAK ratio in patients with type 2 diabetes. However, no significant effect on expression levels of PPAR alpha and p16 genes was observed after supplementation. More research is needed to confirm the benefits of resveratrol for diabetic patients.

Summary: This study found that PDE5 inhibitors can improve cardiac remodeling in male patients with diabetic cardiomyopathy, but not in female patients. Additionally, the use of this inhibitor also improves cardiovascular, metabolic, immune, and renal function in both sexes. However, further research is still needed to confirm whether Klotho and hsa-miR-199-5p are markers for T2DM complications.

Summary: This study examined attrition from weight loss programs for patients with obesity during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and its association with patients' affective temperaments, psychopathology, and clinical variables. The findings suggest that male patients with obesity are at higher risk of dropout during the pandemic, while affective temperaments may serve as a useful baseline assessment for predicting attrition risk outside of the pandemic.

Summary: This systematic review explores the use of phase angle (PhA) in breast cancer (BC) patients and its relationship with nutritional status and survival. The findings indicate that PhA decreases after chemotherapy in BC patients, but tailored lifestyle interventions can prevent this decrease. High PhA values are associated with better nutritional status, but there is inconsistent data on survival. Further studies are needed to determine the clinical relevance of PhA in BC patients and its association with disease outcomes and survival.

Summary: The metabolic benefits of time-restricted eating (TRE) in humans are statistically significant but not clinically relevant. This study compared the effects of a TRE regimen with a time-unrestricted (TUE) regimen on patients with obesity. The results show that TRE led to a slightly greater weight loss compared to TUE, but there were no significant differences in other variables. The changes in gut microbiota composition induced by TRE were of uncertain clinical significance.

Summary: This study examined the changes in telomere length (TL) and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number in obese patients after a one-year lifestyle intervention. The results showed that patients with lower baseline TL values had significant increases in TL and mtDNA copy number after the intervention, along with weight loss, reduction in fat mass, increase in fat-free mass, and improvement in total antioxidant capacity.

Summary: Breast cancer is a common global cancer and chemotherapy, while essential for treatment, often leads to side effects such as taste alterations. Dysgeusia, although underestimated by clinicians, greatly affects the physical and psychological health of cancer patients, with profound impacts on their quality of life. Strategies for managing dysgeusia in breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy have been proposed, but the literature on this topic is limited and heterogeneous, making it challenging to obtain definitive results and clinical recommendations.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the variations in bioimpedance analysis (BIA)-derived phase angle (PhA) among individuals with different weight status based on age, sex, and body mass index (BMI). The results showed that PhA was higher in men than in women, and it decreased linearly with age in women, while in men, the decline occurred after the age of 40. However, there were no significant differences in PhA with increasing BMI in either sex, except for potentially lower values when BMI was over 50 kg/m2. This study provides valuable insights into the assessment of PhA in obesity and its implications for prevention and clinical nutrition.

Summary: Liraglutide has beneficial effects on fecal output in short bowel syndrome patients after surgical resection. A pilot observational study showed that after 6 months of treatment, the median ostomy/fecal output was significantly reduced in liraglutide-treated patients compared to untreated patients. The main side effect of liraglutide was mild nausea, except in one patient who experienced severe nausea/vomiting.

Summary: Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is a group of dysmetabolic conditions accompanied by oxidative stress, inflammation, and vascular dysfunction. Berries and their bioactives have shown potential in mitigating the risk factors associated with MetS. This systematic review summarizes recent human intervention studies on the effects of berries in subjects with MetS parameters, showing positive effects on lipid profile and inflammation. However, further high-quality trials are needed to fully establish the role of berries in reducing risk factors for MetS.
