Summary: This paper examines the perceptions of stakeholders from 17 Latin American countries on the legal frameworks affecting national forest landscape restoration interventions, finding that there is a lack of articulation in the legal frameworks to enable coordinated deployment of various forest restoration interventions. Efforts in some countries such as Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico to improve cross-sectorial communication and develop innovative financial mechanisms were highlighted, but challenges including weak implementation capacities, insufficient funding, and social conflicts remain as key impediments for policy implementation.

Summary: Community forestry plays an important role in implementing the REDD+ climate change program. However, the impact of different aspects of rural community agency is not well understood. This study examines forest governance and conflicts in two forest communities in Cameroon and finds that power relations and conflicts pose challenges to the success of the REDD+ program. Understanding these dynamics is important for the implementation of REDD+.

Summary: The deforestation rates in Latin America have finally started to decrease in the past decades, suggesting the possibility of a forest transition in the region. This paper investigates the existence of this forest transition through an analysis of the relationship between forest cover and economic development using a panel of 21 countries and satellite data. The results show that there is indeed a forest transition in Latin America, with different stages of countries showing different patterns.
