Summary: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis on the global survival rate of graft and patients in kidney transplantation of children. The findings suggest differences in graft and patient survival among children with kidney transplants, warranting interventions to improve preventive and living-donor transplantation, particularly in minority groups. More research is needed to address medical and sociocultural barriers in preferential treatment of these groups.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized, placebo-controlled trials (RCTs) and individual patient data (IPD) was conducted to evaluate the effect of vitamin D3 supplementation on cancer mortality in the general population and on prognosis in cancer patients. The main meta-analysis of the 14 RCTs showed a non-significant reduction in cancer mortality by 6%. Subgroup analyses revealed a significant reduction in cancer mortality in trials with daily dosing, while no reduction was seen in trials using a bolus regimen. The IPD meta-analysis confirmed the findings of all trials.

Summary: The study retrospectively analyzed 726 renal transplant recipients converted to sirolimus, showing lower cancer incidence rates after conversion. Patients with prior malignancy were older but had lower cancer rates after conversion. Renal function and graft survival were better in all cancer types compared to patients converted to sirolimus without cancers. Patient survival was largely dependent on tumor entity.

Summary: This study compared graft and patient survival between single renal artery (SRA) and multiple renal arteries (MRA) in living-donor kidney transplants. The results showed no significant differences in survival rates between the two, indicating that there is no need to discriminate between them when evaluating donors for nephrectomy.

Summary: The study found that reporting any major life events was associated with poorer prognosis for depression treatment. Removing factors that might mediate the relationships between life events and outcomes revealed that arguments/disputes, problem debt, violent crime, losing one's job, and three or more life events were associated with considerably worse prognoses.

Summary: The high demand for organs in kidney transplantation has led to the widespread use of machine perfusion technologies. This study provides a systematic review of the developments in this field over the past 10 years and compares different perfusion techniques. The results show that dynamic preservation strategies, such as hypothermic machine perfusion, have lower rates of delayed graft function and have the potential to improve outcomes in kidney transplantation.

Summary: Modulating the expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) through farnesoid X receptor (FXR) can reduce susceptibility to SARS-CoV-2 infection, as shown in various tissues and organoids in vitro, in vivo, and ex vivo. The use of z-guggulsterone and ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) can downregulate ACE2 and decrease viral infection, including in the nasal epithelium. Clinical data also indicate positive outcomes with UDCA treatment in SARS-CoV-2 infection. These findings suggest that targeting the FXR-ACE2 pathway could be a potential strategy for preventing COVID-19.

Summary: The review highlighted high risks of COVID-19 transmission in large social events, indoor sports, healthcare settings, shared workplaces, residential settings, and public transportation. Common risk factors included close contact with COVID-19 cases and inadequate use of personal protective equipment in healthcare settings. Inadequate infection prevention and control practices were also found to contribute to transmission in other settings and activities. Further research is necessary to inform infection prevention and control measures due to the heterogeneity of studies and lack of direct information on dominant variants, vaccination coverage, and preventive measures.
