Summary: Many young women with newly diagnosed breast cancer express interest in future pregnancies. Within 5 years of diagnosis, 36% reported interest in having children, with the majority successfully conceiving if they attempted to do so. Factors such as age at diagnosis and parity status were associated with likelihood of pregnancy, while endocrine therapy was inversely linked to pregnancy outcomes. Longitudinal fertility discussions are important for this population.

Summary: This international study examined the impact of global nutritional state on early postoperative outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for colorectal or gastric cancer. Severe malnutrition was found to be a risk factor for 30-day mortality and major complications following elective surgery, with a greater burden in low-income and lower-middle-income countries. Therefore, there is an urgent need for global nutritional interventions to improve early outcomes in patients with gastrointestinal cancer.

Summary: Research on the association between infertility and breast cancer risk has yielded conflicting results, possibly due to the strong correlation between infertility and well-established risk factors for breast cancer, such as pregnancy history. This study found that women with a history of infertility had a slightly increased risk of postmenopausal breast cancer, and approximately half of this association could be explained by lower total parity and later age at first birth.

Summary: This study aimed to describe pet ownership in a breast cancer cohort within 5 years post-diagnosis and identify associated factors. Results showed that 51.7% of patients had pets at diagnosis, which increased to 58.4% at 5 years. Women with depressive symptoms and poor quality of life were more likely to stop having pets, while older and unpartnered women were less likely to start having pets.

Summary: This study found a potential association between proton-pump inhibitors (PPI) and gastric cancer, which may be mainly due to reverse causality. The results showed that short-term use of PPIs may increase the risk of gastric cancer, but this association becomes non-significant after using PPIs for more than 3 years.
