Summary: There has been a decrease in the age at menarche (AAM) among women from 26 ethnicities in Yunnan Province, China, born between 1965 and 2001, with a secular trend towards a younger AAM. The fastest rate of decline was observed in the Bai ethnicity, and consistent declining trends were seen across various economic patterns. Significant differences in the declining trends in AAM were observed along rural/urban lines.

Summary: The median age at menarche among Chinese Han girls decreased from 13.37 years in 1985 to 12.00 years in 2019, but at a slowing pace in the last five years. Urban-rural disparities gradually narrowed. It is necessary to strengthen sexual and reproductive health education and interventions, especially in rural areas.

Summary: This study investigated the secular trends of age at menarche (AAM) for women born between 1935 and 2000 in rural China and explored the effect of famine on AAM. The study found a decreasing trend in AAM and a positive association between fetal and childhood famine exposure and increased AAM.

Summary: Esophageal cancer, particularly esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), has significantly increased in Taiwan over the past thirty years. This increase may be attributed to changes in risk factors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and betel nut chewing. Early detection and prevention are crucial for high-risk patients.

Summary: The incidence rates of adverse perinatal outcomes have significantly decreased in Hubei province over the past 9 years. However, both extremes of maternal age groups and young and old cohorts are associated with a higher risk of preterm birth, perinatal mortality, and congenital defect.

Summary: The suicide rate in China has generally decreased since the 1990s, but this trend has slowed down and even reversed in certain groups in recent years. This study investigated the latest suicide risk in mainland China using the age-period-cohort (APC) analysis. The findings showed that there was a high risk of suicide among people born in 1920-1944 and a sharp decline in the 1945-1979 cohort. The lowest risk occurred in the 1980-1994 cohort before a sharp increase in generation Z (birth years in 1995-2009).

Summary: This study found that late menarche is associated with a lower prevalence of diabetes, while early natural menopause is associated with a higher prevalence of diabetes. Additionally, body mass index, abdominal obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia do not significantly modify these associations.

Summary: The association between age at menarche and high blood pressure has been inconsistent in previous studies. This study aims to explore this association in less developed ethnic minority regions in China and investigate the mediating effect of obesity and the moderating effect of menopausal status. Late menarche is found to be associated with a lower risk of high blood pressure, and obesity is identified as an important mediator in this relationship.

Summary: The study found that late menarche in women in Hunan Province is associated with a higher risk of hyperhomocysteinemia and its associated diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and obesity. Menarcheal age may have different predictive effects on women of different birth cohorts.

Summary: The study evaluated the trends in physical fitness of Chinese rural children and adolescents aged 7-18 from 1985 to 2019. Different aspects of fitness were measured during various time periods. The findings showed improvements in physical fitness from 1985-2000, followed by declines in some areas from 2000-2010. The period of 2010-2019 saw mixed trends, with some improvements and continued declines in certain aspects of fitness.

Summary: Since 1985, the trend of emaciation in children and adolescents in Yunnan has decreased, while the prevalence of obesity and overweight has increased. The annual growth rate of overweight and obesity is higher in rural areas and among boys compared to urban areas and girls. Disparities in emaciation, overweight, and obesity among children in Yunnan are common, varying by area and gender.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the association between age at menarche and lumbar spine bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women. The results showed that postmenopausal women with a menarche age ≥ 16 years had significantly lower lumbar spine BMD compared to those with a menarche age ≤ 12 years.

Summary: This study used ensemble empirical mode decomposition to analyze the secular trends of ecosystem water-use efficiency (WUE) in China and their relative contribution (RC) to WUE changes. The results showed that while increasing trends dominated, almost half of the study areas experienced trend shifts. Different land cover types had different contributions to WUE changes. Temperature and atmospheric CO2 concentration were identified as the main climatic factors driving WUE changes. The climatic mean state had a greater impact on ecosystem stability than variability.
