Summary: This study examines the prescribing patterns of fluoride by physicians and dentists for Medicaid-enrolled children and identifies factors associated with fluoride prescriptions. The study found that physicians were more likely to prescribe fluoride than dentists, and caries risk factors were associated with fluoride prescriptions. Further research is needed to ensure that high-risk children have access to prescription fluoride.

Summary: The study found that opioid prescription rates in dentistry for people enrolled in Medicaid decreased substantially from 2012 through 2019 for both children and adults. The percentage of prescriptions written for nonsurgical visits consistently declined over time, along with decreases in opioid prescription rates for both dental surgical procedures and dental nonsurgical procedures.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between preventive dental care utilization and untreated dental caries for Medicaid-enrolled adolescents and to determine if the relationship is moderated by chronic conditions. The study found that there was no significant relationship between preventive dental care utilization and untreated dental caries, regardless of the presence of chronic conditions.

Summary: The study found that autistic adults may have multiple co-occurring physical and mental health issues, which could vary by racial/ethnic group. Compared to the general Medicaid population, autistic adult Medicaid beneficiaries have higher odds of some health conditions, such as epilepsy and nutrition issues, as well as certain psychiatric conditions like anxiety and attention disorders. Additionally, many of the health disparities related to racial/ethnic group in the general population are also present in the autistic adult Medicaid population, with Black, Hispanic, and Asian beneficiaries having higher odds of certain health conditions like diabetes.

Summary: Proper use of antiretroviral therapy is crucial for children with HIV to improve clinical outcomes and prevent transmission. A study in 14 states in the US found that a majority of Medicaid-enrolled children with HIV had never received ART, and a significant percentage of those who did had discontinued treatment. Correlates of poor implementation and non-persistence with ART varied, suggesting the need for tailored clinical interventions to improve engagement with care and ART use.

Summary: This study found that preventive dental visits in the previous year are associated with fewer subsequent nonpreventive dental visits and lower dental expenditures. Supporting the use of preventive dental care may improve population oral health outcomes and reduce dental costs among certain low-income adult populations, but barriers to consistent utilization of preventive dental visits limit definitive findings.

Summary: The study found that obesity, high waist circumference, and waist-to-height ratio were associated with an increased risk of hypertension-diabetes comorbidity in elderly individuals. Reasonable control of body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and waist-to-height ratio may be an effective measure to prevent HDC.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of high phosphate diet on body composition and energy metabolism parameters. The results show that mice fed a high phosphate diet have slower weight gain, increased lean-to-fat mass ratio, and fasting hypoglycemia. This research provides important insights into the impact of high phosphate intake on the body.
