Summary: In this paper, a guided wave-based stress measurement method for axially loaded steel tubes is developed and validated through experiments and analysis. The linear relationship between the group velocity of guided waves and the stress of the steel tube is established and verified, with an average error of 8.2%.

Summary: This paper investigates the instantaneous phase characteristics of shear horizontal guided waves and explores the feasibility of estimating the minimum remaining wall thickness using Gaussian process regression. The research shows that the model built by integrating large-scale simulated and low-scale experimental data has high accuracy in wall thickness gauging.

Summary: This paper investigates the characteristics of longitudinal guided waves in pipes. The results show that there is a numerical coincidence with Lamb waves in plates at high frequencies, while at low frequencies only the L(0,1) mode propagates and the L(0,2) mode has a cutoff frequency.

Summary: In this study, guided stress waves were used to evaluate the conditions of a timber utility pole experimentally and numerically using Macro Fiber Composites (MFCs) actuator ring to excite longitudinal ultrasonic wave modes. The results demonstrated the high potential of guided waves as a non-destructive tool for the assessment and evaluation of timber utility poles, accurately determining the embedded length and damage localization.

Summary: Nonlinear ultrasonic guided waves have gained increasing attention in the field of structural health monitoring due to their high sensitivity and long detection distance. This paper proposes an analytical approach, based on the semi-analytical finite element (SAFE) method, to evaluate the effects of temperature on nonlinear ultrasonic guided waves. The study focuses on a plate structure and includes simulation analysis and experimental verification. The results indicate distinct variations in different cumulative second harmonic modes with temperature, highlighting the need to predict and compensate for the influence of temperature in applications involving nonlinear ultrasonic guided waves.

Summary: This study presents the use of ultrasonic-guided waves to detect water in hollow pipes. The system employed a 40 kHz piezoelectric (PZT) transmitter and a PZT ultrasound transducer. Flood detection was performed by analyzing the guided wave attenuation due to energy leakage. Two approaches, offline wavelet energy entropy analysis and real-time hit-and-miss analysis, were carried out to identify flooded tubes. The experiments in the laboratory successfully detected the presence of water in the pipes.

Summary: This work presents a simple and low-cost method to determine the damping property of a viscoelastic coating layer through experiments. The experimental results were validated by numerical simulations. This technique is suitable for cases that require excitation in a wide frequency range, but precision depends on several factors.

Summary: In this study, dispersive wave propagation in plant leaves was investigated using a long-distance laser-based ultrasonic method. Guided waves traveling through different parts of the leaves were measured and analyzed, and an estimation of leaf elastic properties using the Rayleigh-Lamb model was proposed. This research lays the foundation for developing acoustic fingerprints for leaf identification and non-invasive mechanical characterization.

Summary: This study evaluated the benefits of using ultrasonic guided waves for mapping structures on a mobile magnetic robotic platform, successfully demonstrating the localization of edges and welded joints. The proposed mapping algorithm estimated the position of sample edges with a range accuracy of < 1.7 mm (1 sigma), showcasing the potential of this technology for future applications in embedded sensor technology.

Summary: In this study, an attention-based interpretable prototypical network is proposed for small-sample damage identification using ultrasonic guided waves. The network calculates the prototype of each category and the similarity between samples, and extracts features with a channel attention module to highlight valid information and alleviate overfitting problem. The network's interpretability is enhanced with the introduction of local interpretable model-agnostic explanation (LIME). Experimental results show that the proposed network effectively overcomes the limited data problem in damage identification, and the LIME analysis significantly improves the interpretability of the network.

Summary: This article explores the detection of fatigue cracks in vibration condition caused by operation using ultrasonic guided waves, proposing a detection method based on the difference index and the sequence curve of difference index between different states of crack. Experimental results show that loads from 0 to 24 MPa have minimal effect on ultrasonic guided waves, and the method based on difference index value and sequence of difference index is reliable for detecting fatigue cracks in structures under vibration conditions.
