Summary: The solvothermal synthesis, structure determination and optical characterization of five new metastable halometallate compounds with rich structural diversity have been reported. The optical behavior of these materials depends on their structural dimensionalities, making them potential candidates for semiconductor applications.

Summary: This work systematically investigates the interlayer bonds and charge redistribution in various representative two-dimensional materials by first-principles calculations. Three main types of interlayer couplings are identified: London dispersion forces, electrostatic interaction, and dative or coordination chemical bonds. A protocol is proposed for recognizing the dominant type of interlayer bonds, which enables the prediction of chemical and physical properties using computationally efficient methods.

Summary: In this study, the physical and chemical properties of an n-hexylammonium bromide (HABr)-based lowdimensional perovskite were investigated. It was discovered that a new fluxional ligand ion, HA2PbI2Br2, can be used as a stable and efficient surface modifier to enhance the stability and efficiency of photovoltaic devices.

Summary: Organic phototransistors (OPTs) have attracted attention for their advantages of designable molecular structures, low-cost fabrication, and large-area production. However, the performance of OPTs is limited by low crystallinity and random crystallographic orientation. In this study, a capillary-bridge lithography strategy was used to fabricate 1D single-crystal arrays with high crystallinity and accurate positioning. This improved fabrication method resulted in high-performance OPTs with high photosensitivity, responsivity, and detectivity.

Summary: We obtained three rare co-crystals of citric acid and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethene with different molecular compositions through a one-pot synthesis. The co-crystals can be distinguished by their morphology and appearance at different stages of crystallization. Interestingly, the isolated crystals undergo solid-state conversion and photochemical reactivity upon UV irradiation.

Summary: The anisotropic deformation behavior of single crystalline copper materials under scratching was investigated in this study. A crystal plasticity finite element model was developed to simulate the scratching process, and the deformation mechanisms of (001)-, (101)- and (111)-oriented coppers were analyzed.

Summary: The successful exfoliation of graphene has led to an increased focus on research of two-dimensional materials, which exhibit unique properties and potential applications. To achieve large-scale practical applications, wafer scale single crystalline 2D materials are crucial but face challenges in synthesis. Different routes for synthesizing these materials have been explored, with some successes in WSSC graphene, hBN, and MoS2, while growth of other WSSC 2D materials remains a significant challenge. Opportunities for future research in the synthesis of various wafer scale single crystalline 2D materials have been summarized.

Summary: The study investigates thermal-induced reactions of formic acid on metal oxide surfaces, particularly on single-crystalline and nanocrystalline anatase TiO2(101). Various techniques including STM, TPD, IRAS, DRIFTS, and DFT were used to analyze surface intermediates and reaction products. The primary reaction products were identified as molecular water, carbon monoxide, and formaldehyde, with bidentate formate and bridging hydroxyl as central intermediates. Bridging oxygen vacancies were also found to be potential participants despite their low stability.

Summary: The research reveals the presence of both 2-fold and 3-fold icosahedral quasicrystal symmetries, as well as Moire Fringes, within the single crystal hematite nano octahedron. This nano octahedron is grown from a FeOCl (Iron oxychloride) based nucleation center, obtained through the thermal decomposition of FeCl3.6H2O in the presence of oleic acid and Urea over time.
