Summary: This study found that hyperuricemia (HUA) is associated with age-related cardiovascular and renal outcomes. In younger and middle-aged adults, HUA is associated with higher body mass index, fasting blood glucose, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, and lower estimated glomerular filtration rate. In elderly adults, HUA is associated with higher systolic blood pressure, triglycerides, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Summary: This review provides a summary of recent evidence on the exacerbating effects of mid-life hypertension, hyperhomocysteinemia, blood pressure variability, and late-life hypotension on Alzheimer's disease and dementia risk. It also highlights potential therapeutic options and novel vascular biomarkers associated with hypertension and hyperhomocysteinemia.

Summary: Pregnancy is a specific risk factor for stroke in women, and although rare, it leads to high maternal mortality and persistent neurological deficits. Recent studies have shown an increasing incidence of pregnancy-associated stroke, likely due to the rising prevalence of stroke risk factors among pregnant women. To reduce pregnancy-related stroke, increased awareness and preventive measures focusing on risk factor management and symptom recognition are necessary.

Summary: This study found that physical capacity and anthropometry were associated with sarcopenia in institutionalized elderly individuals, with eutrophic or overweight individuals and those who can ambulate having lower chances of presenting sarcopenia. Additionally, malnutrition was found to be related to sarcopenia.

Summary: This study demonstrates that fatty liver disease is not associated with mortality in the elderly population, both overall and in various subgroups. This suggests that screening for fatty liver disease and/or fibrosis is unlikely to improve outcomes among elderly individuals.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between malnutrition and orthostatic hypotension in elderly hypertensive patients. Through comprehensive geriatric assessment and various methods for diagnosing muscle mass loss, it is found that the accurate diagnosis of malnutrition and changes in upper arm circumference are crucial in preventing orthostatic hypotension.

Summary: This study found that in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), factors such as female sex, age, smoking, mean arterial pressure (MAP), glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), cause of disease, ACEI/ARB, and glucocorticoid were associated with arterial stiffness.

Summary: This study examined the association between blood selenium levels and hyperhomocysteinemia in a rural elderly population in China. The results showed that higher blood selenium levels were associated with a lower risk of hyperhomocysteinemia. The relationship between blood selenium and serum homocysteine was found to be non-linear.

Summary: This study used a genome-wide association study to uncover the genetic factors underlying preeclampsia and maternal hypertension during pregnancy. The analysis identified several novel genetic associations and found that genes related to blood pressure traits are also associated with preeclampsia. These findings suggest a connection between cardiovascular function and the development of preeclampsia.

Summary: This study evaluated the seasonality of cardiac surgeries in a hospital in East-Central Europe and found that diabetes, smoking, and elderly age were associated with seasonal variations in the monthly proportion of surgeries. The simultaneous presence of diabetes and smoking increased the requirement for cardiac surgery, while the presence of older age and diabetes or smoking eliminated seasonal variations.

Summary: This study explored the relationship between dabigatran-related genes and plasma levels of dabigatran in healthy Chinese subjects after a single oral dose. Genetic polymorphisms, especially CES1 rs8192935, were found to affect the peak concentration of dabigatran. Food intake significantly delayed the absorption of dabigatran, but had little impact on C-max and AUC(0-infinity).
