Summary: Barataria Bay serves as a receiving basin for a large sediment diversion project in Louisiana, USA, with data showing that salinity variations are controlled by wind and tidal currents in the region. Sediment resuspension is primarily triggered by wave-current shear stress, with net sediment transport occurring during cold front passages. Sediment transport direction and magnitude change significantly with shifting wind patterns, impacting wetland sedimentation and potential sediment escape from the bay. The timing of diversion operations, wind directions, and water levels should all be considered for effective future management of coastal areas.

Summary: The study utilizes water quality monitoring data to analyze the seasonal and inter-annual variability in habitat for the copepod Acartia tonsa in Chesapeake Bay. Results show that the P-crit metric predicts the largest volume of unsuitable deoxygenated habitat over space and time, with dry conditions leading to a decreased extent of deoxygenated habitat. Although no clear relationship between copepod abundance and habitat availability was observed, the peak abundance of A. tonsa correlates with the extent of deoxygenated habitat using the P-crit metric.

Summary: Humic substances, major components of dissolved organic carbon in aquatic environments, can be measured using conventional optical methods or a new electrochemical method. In the study, humic substances were found to have higher concentrations in surrounding rivers than in Otsuchi Bay, suggesting that rivers are an important source for humic substances in the bay. The electroactive humic substances correlated well with optical indices of dissolved organic matter.

Summary: The largest unusual mortality event of cetaceans recorded in the Gulf of Mexico occurred from 2010 to 2014, with the majority of deaths being Common Bottlenose Dolphins near Barataria Bay, Louisiana. The study identified the diet of dolphins in the area, revealing that their main prey was the Atlantic Croaker and that they foraged along the bottom of the bay, potentially leading to long-term oil exposure.

Summary: This study investigated the habitat use and diet of Common Loons wintering in Barataria Bay, Louisiana, after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The results showed that these birds primarily feed in coastal estuarine habitats and mainly consume fish. There were no significant differences in habitat use and diet between subadult and adult birds. The study also found no significant relationship between blood contamination of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and stable isotopic composition.

Summary: This study provides accurate distribution and density estimates of greater gliders at Seven Mile Beach National Park in New South Wales, Australia, showing a preference for Eucalyptus and blackbutt dominated forests. Suitable hollows are important for glider distribution. Site-specific management options such as nest boxes and glider poles should be considered based on these findings.

Summary: The study utilized contemporary and historic data to explore the annual abundance and spatial-temporal changes of Scaup populations in Great South Bay in winter 2019. Results showed substantial capture bias in banded Scaup, while the recovery longitude of Lesser Scaup varied by region and shifted 209 km eastward from 1920 to 2019.
