Summary: The study found that using written communication strategies, particularly when supplemented with visual aids, could effectively improve the understanding of information related to factors associated with peri-implantitis. However, this approach did not have a significant impact on recall or changing behavioral intentions over follow-up.

Summary: The 5-year follow-up analysis of the randomized trial evaluating the effects of MTZ+AMX as adjuncts to SRP in diabetic patients with periodontitis showed that patients treated with antibiotics had better clinical and microbiological outcomes compared to those receiving SRP only. However, the benefits observed at 2 years post-treatment were not fully sustained in patients who did not receive supportive periodontal therapy between 2 and 5 years post-treatment.

Summary: The efficacy of air polishing compared to hand or ultrasonic instrumentation in reducing periodontal inflammation was found to be similar in the review of 13 studies. However, caution is needed in interpreting the findings due to methodological issues and potential conflicts of interest related to industry funding.

Summary: The study found that oral diseases or poor oral hygiene may be linked to the development of chronic kidney disease. Improved oral hygiene (brushing teeth >= 3 times a day) was associated with a decreased risk of developing new-onset CKD. Additional interventional studies are needed to establish a causative relationship between oral hygiene and CKD risk.

Summary: This study found that patients have insufficient knowledge about risk factors and prevention of periodontal disease. Although they have a relatively high awareness of the role of plaque bacteria and the effect of smoking on the periodontium, their understanding of other weaker risk factors and genetic factors is lacking. The results of this study indicate the need to improve patients' oral health literacy to enhance the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease.

Summary: This study found significant differences in the oral microbiota of patients with PD compared to healthy controls, possibly due to factors such as dysphagia, drooling, and salivary pH. Understanding the factors influencing their oral microbiota could lead to the development of diagnostic and treatment strategies to improve the quality of life and survival of these patients.

Summary: Periodontitis and inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) are gastrointestinal tract inflammatory diseases with common features of microbial-induced ecological dysregulation and immune inflammatory response. The close relationship between periodontitis and IBD indicates an Oral-Gut axis, where periodontitis patients have higher prevalence of IBD and IBD patients have higher prevalence and severity of periodontitis. The interconnection between the two involves pathogenic bacteria colonization in the gut, immune dysregulation, and alteration of oral microbiota, with Th17 cell responses and pro-inflammatory factors playing crucial roles.

Summary: This study investigated the association between oral health parameters and Meniere's disease in a population-based cohort database. The findings suggest that periodontitis and an increased number of missing teeth are associated with an increased risk of Meniere's disease, while good oral hygiene, such as frequent tooth brushing and dental scaling, may be associated with a decreased risk.

Summary: This study revealed a link between poor oral health, like periodontitis, missing teeth, and dental caries, and an increased risk of osteoporotic fracture. Conversely, good oral hygiene behaviors such as frequent teeth brushing and dental scaling within 1 year were associated with a reduced risk.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of panoramic and peri-apical radiographs in diagnosing furcation involvement, and to assess the impact of clinical experience on these diagnostic parameters. Results showed that while panoramic and peri-apical radiographs had low sensitivity in identifying furcation involvement, they had high specificity. Combining radiographs with probing may improve diagnostic accuracy.

Summary: Since 2018, Belgium has allowed the incorporation of phages into magistral preparations for human application, emphasizing the importance of stability for quality and efficacy. Through experiments, it was found that DPBS without Ca2+ and Mg2+ was the best option for preserving phage infectivity, while suspensions with phage concentrations of 7 log pfu/mL were not suitable for storage at 4 degrees C.

Summary: Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common bacterial vaginal infection with an unknown etiology, characterized by structured polymicrobial biofilms primarily formed by Gardnerella spp. and other anaerobic species. The study compared triple-species biofilms using pre-conditioned and competitive models, finding more significant synergistic growth interactions in the competitive model. Despite model differences, G. vaginalis consistently dominated the biofilm composition, emphasizing its relevance in BV.

Summary: This study investigates the potential mechanisms of therapy failure in bacterial vaginosis treatment, revealing that metronidazole and clindamycin face issues of resistance formation and ineffectiveness on biofilm. However, a novel endolysin PM-477 shows high effectiveness in eliminating Gardnerella and has high resilience to resistance formation, making it a promising alternative for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis.
