We report the development of nine single-copy anonymous nuclear polymorphic loci (SCNPs) developed from the SouthEast Asian freshwater livebearing halfbeak fish Dermogenys pusilla. Ninety-six clones from a genomic library were examined, and 43 potential loci were tested across several species of Dermogenys, and in the related halfbeak Hemirhamphodon pogonognathus. All loci reported here amplified successfully in six putative species of Dermogenys, but not in Hemirhamphodon. An average of 50 SNPs per kilobase were identified (total of 5,850 bp sequenced per individual). These markers should provide a useful resource for species delineation, and other phylogenetic, phylogeographic and population genetic studies of Dermogenys halfbeaks.
