Summary: Through interviews with PCPs and payors, barriers to uptake of Diabetes Prevention Programs (DPP) were identified at different levels and suggestions were made to improve diabetes prevention strategies, including universal coverage of DPPs, clarity of coverage benefits, data reporting and outreach by payors to PCPs, and adoption of appropriate prediabetes quality measures.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of the Australian Diabetes Alliance Program (DAP) on general practitioners (GPs) in managing diabetes. Overall, GPs were supportive of the program and reported significant changes in their knowledge, skills, and approach to care. However, some GPs indicated that the program could be time consuming and more flexibility was needed.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the ability of general practitioners (GPs) in screening and diagnosing primary aldosteronism (PA) in newly diagnosed, treatment-naive patients with hypertension. Screening was done by measuring aldosterone-to-renin ratio (ARR), and PA diagnosis was confirmed through saline suppression testing. The results showed that PA was diagnosed in 14% of patients with newly diagnosed hypertension screened by GPs.

Summary: Diabetes is a prevalent and preventable chronic health condition in the United States. The National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) is an evidence-based program designed to reduce diabetes risk through intensive group counseling. However, there are barriers to the implementation of the program, including limited awareness, lack of clinical processes, and limited reimbursement incentives.

Summary: The Diabetes Empowerment Group Program (DEGP) aims to empower patients with diabetes through a multidisciplinary and group-based approach. Seven key elements and a framework of empowerment for self-care were identified, with factors impacting the feasibility and acceptability of implementing the program in other primary care settings being explored. This research contributes to the development of more patient-centered programs for diabetes management.

Summary: This study aimed to determine eye screening coverage and adherence to national recommendations for eye screening in Indigenous primary care clinics using a nurse-led retinal image-based model of diabetes education. The results showed divergent screening results based on recruitment methods, with higher coverage achieved at the site where the nurse had access to patient recruitment and scheduling. This nurse-led model can improve the low eye screening coverage for Indigenous diabetes patients in Australia and can be adapted to other settings with suboptimal access to eye care.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of Quality Improvement Collaboratives (QIC) in improving stroke care, finding that QICs are associated with improvements in clinical processes but have limited impact on patient and other outcomes. Key facilitators include inter- and intra-organisational networking, feedback mechanisms, leadership engagement, and access to best practice examples; key barriers include structural changes during the QIC's active period, lack of organizational support or prioritization of QIC activities, and insufficient time and resources to participate in QIC activities.

Summary: The study examined early medical abortion services provision in Australia, with national rates increasing from 2015 to 2019. Rates were higher in outer regional and remote areas compared to major cities in 2019. However, a significant proportion of women lived in areas where early medical abortion services were not locally available in 2019, particularly in remote areas.
