Some new metal(II) complexes, ML2 [M = Co, Ni, Cu and Zn], of 2-acetylthiophene benzoylhydrazone ligand (HL) containing a trifunctional SNO-donor system have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of physicochemical data by elemental analysis, magnetic moment, molar conductance, thermogravimetric and spectroscopic (electronic, IR, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR) data. The ligand functions as monobasic SNO tridentates where the deprotonated enolic form is preferred in the coordination producing distorted octahedral complexes. (C) 2010 King Saud University.
