Summary: This paper describes a four-step synthesis of fluorescent pyrimidine-derived α-amino acids from an L-aspartic acid derivative. The key synthetic steps involved the preparation of ynone intermediates through the reaction of alkynyl lithium salts with a Weinreb amide, followed by a heterocyclization reaction with amidines catalyzed by ytterbium. The substitution of the C2 and C4 positions of the pyrimidine ring allowed tuning of the photoluminescent properties of the α-amino acids. The study also revealed that fluorophores with the highest quantum yields and overall brightness were obtained by combining highly conjugated or electron-rich aryl substituents with the p-deficient pyrimidine motif. Further analysis demonstrated solvatochromism and sensitivity to pH in the most fluorogenic α-amino acid.

Summary: A Co-catalyzed enantioselective desymmetric [2+2+2] cycloaddition has been developed for the synthesis of pyridines with all-carbon quaternary carbon centers, with regio- and enantioselectivities controlled by the nature of terminal alkynes and substituents on the bisoxazolinephosphine ligands. Pyridines with 5-substituents can be obtained with high regioselectivity and up to 94% ee, while pyridines with 6-substituents can be formed with up to 99% ee using different alkynes and ligands.

Summary: Rongalite has been used as a cheap and efficient carbonsynthonfor the synthesis of divergent N-heteroaromatics, including differentpyridines and quinolines. The selective synthesis of different productscan be achieved by employing enaminones or enaminones/anilines asreaction partners. Rongalite displays an evident advantage in providing products with considerably higher product yields under milder conditions compared with the reaction using conventional aldehyde synthons. The GC-MS analysis of the reaction process has been performed to probe the possible reaction mechanism.

Summary: Graphite and graphite/alginate composite were synthesized and used as selective adsorbent materials for the removal of La(III) and Ce(III) from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process followed pseudo second-order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm model provided the best fit. The composite showed high capacities for Ce(III) and La(III) removal and has potential applications in the selective separation of these two ions.

Summary: The study revealed that the luminescence intensity of moving single-bubble sonoluminescence of Ce3+ in solutions of CeCl3 and (NH4)(2)Ce(NO3)(6) increases with the cerium ion concentration and saturates at a certain level. Additionally, sonophotoluminescence also contributes to the luminescence of Ce3+ at higher concentrations.

Summary: This study reports a Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H activation/annulation using an imidazolone as an alkene partner to access dihydroisoquinolone-fused imidazolin-2-ones. These compounds resemble the scaffolds found in the pyrrole alkaloid family of natural products. The method allows for the construction of various urea-fused dihydroisoquinolone scaffolds, including heterocyclic moieties.

Summary: The newly developed reaction method involves the [4+1]-annulation of in situ generated heterocyclic azine-aldimines with beta-keto sulfoxonium ylides, resulting in the construction of N-fused imidazole rings. The ylides act as a nucleophilic 1,1-dipolar one-carbon synthon and a source of an internal oxidant, dimethyl sulfoxide, promoting in situ dehydrogenation to product scaffolds. This approach enables the synthesis of imidazo-pyridine, pyrazine, and pyrimidine heteroaromatics.

Summary: The study demonstrates the successful incorporation of cerium(III) nitrate into an electrospun dressing, which can prolong the time before surgical intervention is required and provide burst release. Coaxially spun dressings contain a higher amount of cerium(III) nitrate and show rapid release rates.

Summary: The sorption behavior of Ce(III) on three common environmental minerals (goethite, anatase, and birnessite) was studied. Batch sorption experiments using a radioactive 139Ce tracer were conducted to examine the key characteristics of the sorption process. Different sorption kinetics and changes in oxidation states were observed for the sorption of Ce(III) on birnessite compared to the other minerals.

Summary: This study prepares atomically dispersed cerium catalysts to enhance their activity in CO oxidation reaction. By using Ce-(III) and Ce-(IV) precursors, the cerium catalysts on MgO support were successfully prepared and characterized before and after catalysis using various techniques. The results show that the excellent catalyst maintains stable activity during the 2-day reaction time and exhibits improved reducibility with the transformation of cerium ions.

Summary: This study investigates the importance of azido-PBD as an intermediate in medicinal chemistry and examines the mechanism of nucleophilic substitution reaction for introducing an azide group into the PBD scaffold. Experimental and DFT approaches reveal the possibility of S(N)2 and double S(N)2 pathways, with a high dependence on reaction temperature.
