Summary: We present a case of accidental nicotine intoxication in a 22-year-old man working in an e-liquid manufacturing company. The patient spilled 300 mL of pure nicotine solution on his leg without protection, experiencing symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and burning sensations. He recovered without treatment after five hours. This case highlights the importance of protective clothing when handling nicotine-containing liquid products.

Summary: This study examined the patterns of product use and nicotine exposure among dual users of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. The results showed higher cotinine levels and more cigarettes smoked on days when both products were used together. Situational factors, particularly indoor smoking restrictions, were found to be the main reasons for initiating and continuing smokeless tobacco use among dual users.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of cigarette smoke with different levels of TSNAs and nicotine on biomarkers of exposure in smokers' plasma. The results showed that levels of biomarkers were lower in smokers who smoked cigarettes with lower TSNAs and nicotine. When smokers switched to cigarettes with lower TSNA levels, their biomarker levels significantly decreased. This study suggests that plasma levels of certain biomarkers can be used to assess exposure to TSNAs and nicotine.

Summary: The study found that exposure to secondhand smoke is associated with depressive symptoms in non-smokers, with lower socio-economic status, higher urinary cotinine (UCo) concentration, and SHS exposure all increasing the prevalence of depressive symptoms. Females with depressive symptoms had significantly higher UCo concentrations compared to females without depressive symptoms. The cross-sectional design of the study means that only an association, not causal effects, can be inferred between SHS exposure and depression.

Summary: This study found that hand nicotine levels provide additional insights into children's exposure to tobacco smoke pollutants than reported child TSE and urinary biomarkers. Changes in hand nicotine levels show that consistent home smoking bans in homes of children of smokers can lower THS exposure. Hand nicotine levels may be influenced by the environmental settings in which they are collected.

Summary: This study aimed to measure cotinine concentration in the serum and hair of dogs that were exposed to the owner's tobacco smoke and to compare it with that of unexposed dogs. The results showed that cotinine concentrations were significantly higher in exposed dogs than unexposed dogs, and there were differences in cotinine concentrations between different sex dogs. These results confirmed cotinine as a marker of passive smoking in dogs.

Summary: The study found that IGD and generalised PIU are conceptually distinct entities with different risk factors. Male gender and longer daily gaming time may increase the risk of IGD, while greater daily Internet use and more frequent social networking may increase the risk of generalised PIU. Therefore, it is important to focus on IGD separately from generalised PIU when screening for internet addiction.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted the delivery of treatment services for individuals with dual disorders. Dissatisfaction with personal protective equipment, inadequate COVID-19 testing at treatment facilities, and lack of guidelines for providing continued treatment services have been identified as potential reasons for this disruption. Policy makers, hospital management staff, and other stakeholders need to address these concerns by developing and disseminating guidelines to assist mental health professionals in providing continued treatment services through tele-psychiatry and other digital strategies.

Summary: This internet-based field study evaluated the diagnostic guidelines for ICD-11 mood disorders and found that clinicians using the ICD-11 achieved similar levels of accuracy in diagnosing mood disorders as those using the ICD-10 guidelines. However, the clinical utility of ICD-11 bipolar disorders was found to be significantly lower than for ICD-10 equivalent categories. Further revisions may be needed in areas where the ICD-11 guidelines did not perform as intended.
