Summary: This scoping review identified 29 studies covering 6 topics related to educational interventions in neurosurgery residency programs. While several educational interventions were supported by quantitative evidence, methodological shortcomings were common in the selection of meaningful outcome measures. Evidence-based considerations were provided for program directors in both current and future training programs.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the ability of applicants to assess fit factors through video interviews. The findings showed that the most important factors for fit were how much the program cared, resident satisfaction, and resident rapport. The hardest factors to assess through video interviews were resident rapport, diversity of the patient population, and quality of the facilities. Diversity-related factors were more important to female and non-White applicants but were not more difficult to assess.

Summary: The majority of Belgian surgical residents are interested in international training opportunities, regardless of whether it is in low- or high-income countries. Many are willing to participate during holidays and even if the experience is not officially recognized as part of their residency training. However, challenges such as regulatory, logistical, and financial constraints need to be addressed to facilitate foreign rotations.

Summary: The study explores the variance in anesthesia residents' Milestone Level growth trajectories across individual residents and by program, indicating significant differences in performance. The findings suggest that anesthesia Milestones show a linear relationship with postgraduate year and highlight the importance of longitudinal data analysis in evaluating training progress. The study raises concerns about the validity of the Next Accreditation System and emphasizes the need for further research on individual resident progression during training.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to significant changes in the working methods of clinicians, surgical procedures, operating room management, patient and healthcare worker safety, and education and training. This study reviewed selected articles to determine the changes in general surgery protocols/procedures before and after the pandemic. A total of 236 studies were identified, and 41 studies were included for data extraction. The findings revealed significant decreases in the number of elective surgeries during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic period.

Summary: COVID-19 patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation have a significant risk of developing barotrauma complications, especially if they are in acute respiratory distress syndrome. Factors such as white blood cell count, neutrophil percentage, lymphocyte percentage, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio, and lactate dehydrogenase levels were found to be significantly different in patients who developed barotrauma. Risk factors for the development of barotrauma included intubation due to low level of consciousness, high admission COVID-GRAM score, and higher positive-end expiratory pressure.
