Summary: The collection of capillary blood microsamples via finger-prick is convenient and patient-centric, enabling remote monitoring of diabetes patients. However, there is heterogeneity in the study designs and data evaluation on HbA(1c) determination using microsampling. This review provides a critical overview of the literature and discusses the challenges and possibilities of implementing microsampling for reliable HbA(1c) determination, including the use of liquid blood microsamples.

Summary: Therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is a specialized field in laboratory medicine that involves measuring drug concentrations in biological fluids to optimize efficacy and reduce side effects. Microsampling offers a convenient alternative for pharmacokinetics studies and TDM, providing less invasive options for patients.

Summary: In the field of solid organ transplantation, chemotherapy and autoimmune disorders, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is necessary for immunosuppressant drugs due to their narrow therapeutic window and high variability. This review discusses the use of dried blood samples as an alternative for TDM, including pre-analytical considerations and implementation in clinical practice. The cost-effectiveness, availability of multiplexed methods, harmonization, and patient perception are also addressed. Future developments and obstacles for implementing dried blood-based TDM are discussed. & COPY; 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Summary: This study developed and validated an analytical method for quantifying favipiravir extracted from VAMS using HPLC-Photodiode Array with remdesivir as an internal standard. The method met the validation requirements by FDA 2018 and demonstrated sensitivity, linearity, selectivity, accuracy, precision, recovery, and stability. The VAMS technique with the developed method could be a safe and comfortable biosampling approach for COVID-19 therapy.

Summary: This study developed and validated a UPLC-MS/MS method using VAMS and 4-OHCP-d4 as an internal standard to analyze CP and 4-OHCP. The method has the advantages of small sample volume and not being affected by hematocrit values, and it meets the validation requirements set by the FDA.

Summary: The current clinical phenomenological diagnosis in psychiatry lacks the ability to capture biologically homologous disease entities. A biomarker approach, termed Psychosis Biotypes, has successfully identified neurobiological homology in cases with schizophrenia, schizoaffective, and bipolar I disorder with psychosis. Different Psychosis Biotypes show distinct neurobiological characteristics, which may offer meaningful targets for treatments and etiological investigations.

Summary: Liquid phase migration (LPM) and its potential impact on cobalt capping in cemented carbides were investigated through experiments and simulations. A model for LPM was developed and integrated with Thermo-Calc software to predict the final microstructure. The model's predictions somewhat matched experimental observations, especially in cases with grain size and binder phase volume fraction gradients. It was also observed that LPM can cause a phenomenon resembling cobalt capping due to gradients in carbon activity.

Summary: In this study, the expression patterns of PbrEBF1, PbrEBF2, and PbrEBF3 in response to ethylene and 1-MCP treatment were investigated. PbrEBF3 showed potential association with fruit ripening and interaction with PbrEILs. PbrEBF3 plays a central role in pear fruit ripening through mediation of the ethylene signaling pathway.

Summary: Reducing the volume of blood sampled from neonatal or paediatric patients is crucial for research purposes, with skin prick and capillary microsamples producing comparable results to conventional arterial blood sampling in terms of meropenem concentrations. CMS samples have been found to be stable when stored in the capillary tube for certain durations.
