Summary: This study aims to determine the serum levels of human Kruppel-like factors (KLFs), sP-selectin and sE-selectin, in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and establish correlations between them. The results showed that GDM patients had significantly lower serum levels of KLF2 compared to controls, while the differences in levels of serum KLF4 were not significant. Furthermore, elevated serum levels of sP-selectin and sE-selectin were found in the GDM group but not in the healthy group. Importantly, serum levels of KLF2 were negatively correlated with indicators of glucose metabolism.

Summary: The study systematically planned and developed a theory- and evidence-based mHealth intervention to change cardiometabolic risk behaviors in women during the first 5 years post-GDM, meeting women's expected standards of commercial health apps. The resulting TRIANGLE app showed high acceptance, perceived quality, and impact on health behaviors in user studies, with potential to support behavior change for cardiometabolic disease prevention pending further refinement and testing in clinical trials. Intervention mapping steps 5 and 6 may support the integration of the TRIANGLE intervention into routine care.

Summary: This study aimed to describe lifestyle behaviors and their association with cardiometabolic health in four subgroups of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP). The majority of women were overweight or obese and had poor adherence to diet and exercise recommendations. Adherence to both recommendations was associated with better cardiometabolic outcomes. Therefore, lifestyle interventions are needed to improve diet and physical activity post-HDP and reduce long-term cardiovascular disease risks.

Summary: Patients with intra-articular fractures have significantly elevated pro-inflammatory cytokines in synovial fluid after injury, along with increased levels of anti-inflammatory cytokines. However, concentrations of IL-13, CTX-II, and aggrecan did not show significant differences between compared cohorts. Further standardized studies focusing on the ratio of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines at different time points are needed to better understand the inflammatory responses in intra-articular fractures.

Summary: This longitudinal study aimed to analyze the changes in body composition (BC) following sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and its effects on glucose, lipids, inflammation, and resting energy expenditure (REE). The study found that after 1 month, losses of lean tissue mass (LTM) and fat mass (FM) were comparable, but at 12 months, the loss of FM exceeded that of LTM. VAT also decreased significantly over this period, and biological parameters normalized while REE was reduced. Beyond 12 months, there were no substantial variations in most BC, biological, and metabolic parameters.

Summary: Angiogenin (ANG) is a small protein associated with blood vessel formation, and its abnormal levels in the blood have been linked to various diseases. This study investigated the relationship between circulating levels of ANG, vitamin D, and lipids. The researchers found that vitamin D supplementation may have a modest effect on ANG levels, and there was an interesting association between ANG and apolipoprotein E, which should be further studied due to its connection with neurodegenerative disorders.

Summary: A study compared young individuals with severe obesity who underwent sleeve gastrectomy with non-surgical controls, and found that decreases in hormone OXT levels were associated with reductions in lean mass but not with decreases in fat mass or bone density. This suggests that OXT pathways may be targeted to prevent loss of lean mass following weight loss surgery.

Summary: Research on post-vaccination antibody dynamics is crucial in estimating COVID-19 vaccine efficacy. This study found that antibody levels significantly increased one month after vaccination and exponentially decreased three and six months after complete vaccination. Participants with a prior history of COVID-19 had higher antibody levels, particularly after the first dose. Six months after vaccination, antibody levels were comparable to those seen in COVID-19-naive participants after the first vaccine dose.

Summary: This study demonstrated that a micellar formulation of Pluronic F127-encapsulated quercetin (P-quercetin) was more effective in increasing the bioavailability of quercetin and protecting the kidneys in rats when compared to natural quercetin. P-quercetin not only reduced plasma creatinine and urea levels induced by the nephrotoxic drug cisplatin, but also improved some renal function parameters. The new formulation with enhanced properties can potentially lead to the development of quercetin as a nephroprotective agent in clinical settings at lower dosages.

Summary: This review presents the current state of knowledge on DNA hydroxymethylation in human high-grade gliomas. Multiple studies have shown that the expression of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC) and ten-eleven translocation (TET) enzymes is significantly reduced in high-grade gliomas compared to normal brain tissue. Decreased levels of 5-hmC are associated with poor survival, while high expression of the TET3 enzyme is related to a better prognosis for glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) patients. This highlights the importance of DNA hydroxymethylation in molecular diagnostics of human gliomas, including survival estimation and treatment response differentiation.

Summary: Gliomas, the most common malignant brain tumors, are controlled by various epigenetic mechanisms. This study found that the expression of 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5-hmC) decreases across glioma grades and shows unusual heterogeneity in glioblastoma (GBM). Further analysis revealed that the levels of TET proteins may influence the abundance of 5-hmC in GBM. Additionally, the study suggests that aberrant DNA hydroxymethylation in blood samples may serve as early tumor-related biomarkers for glioma patients.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the concentration and activity of tissue factor (TF) and tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) in patients with intracranial neoplasms, as well as the concentration of thrombin-antithrombin (TAT) complexes. The results showed that the concentration and activity of TF were significantly higher in the plasma and tumor tissue-derived homogenate of intracranial tumor patients compared to control individuals. In contrast, the concentration of TFPI was lower in the tumor tissue-derived homogenate. These findings suggest an increased prothrombotic risk in intracranial tumor patients due to the imbalance between TF and TFPI.
