Summary: Physicians have an ethical obligation to establish a therapeutic alliance with their patients and should try to resolve conflicts through communication or mediation. If restoring the therapeutic relationship is not feasible, ending the patient-physician relationship may be the best option. This statement provides an ethical framework and evidence-based tools to manage patient-physician conflict and rebuild meaningful connections with patients.

Summary: Oncology patients' perspectives on empathy include behaviors such as sensitivity to the clinician-patient relationship, focusing on the whole person, effective communication, key attributes, and institutional resources and care processes. Patients value behaviors like listening, understanding, and attention to emotions and what matters most, as well as clinician demeanor, accessibility, and competence. These insights can help refine quality measures of empathy associated behaviors in clinical practice and improve patient care and outcomes.

Summary: This study examined the effects of physician verbal and nonverbal immediacy on patient liking, motivation to process health information, and recall. The results showed that greater verbal and nonverbal immediacy led to higher patient liking and motivation to comply with physician requests. However, immediacy did not affect information recall. It is recommended for physicians to display verbal and nonverbal immediacy to create a positive impression and motivate patients to improve their health.

Summary: This study examined the ways in which Chinese patients share online health information with physicians and the subsequent impact on the physician-patient relationship. The results indicated that patients with lower communication apprehension tend to share information more directly with their physicians, which can positively affect their perceived reactions and satisfaction. However, eHealth literacy was not found to be associated with patients' sharing of online information.

Summary: The study found that oncologists use variable terminology to describe molecular testing, which is often not understood by patients. White participants were more likely to understand genetic testing and mutation, while patients with higher family income were also more likely to understand the terms. The results highlight the importance of developing more effective methods to explain molecular testing terminology to patients.

Summary: The field of geriatric oncology has made progress, but there are missed opportunities in research due to underrepresentation of older patients in clinical trials, lack of data collection from older patients, and inadequate analysis and reporting of trial data. To advance research, it is necessary to include older patients in trials, gather essential information, and thoroughly analyze and communicate results.

Summary: This study demonstrates the significance of cell-cell communication in maintaining tissue function in health and disease, and its association with clinical outcomes using high-level features and weighted graphs. The edges between cells were found to be strongly associated with disease severity and progression, with genes related to differentially weighted edges enriched in tissue structure and immune response terms.

Summary: A study was conducted to assess patient and physician perspectives on the use of telemedicine for genitourinary cancer care, with high levels of satisfaction reported among both patients and physicians. The encounters were positively rated in terms of communication, counseling, shared decision making, time spent, timeliness and efficiency, and convenience. Technological barriers affected 9% of patients and were associated with decreased satisfaction.

Summary: The study explores the response of primary care physicians (PCPs) to integrative physician (IP) consultations and recommended integrative oncology (IO) treatment programs. The study found that PCPs were more likely to respond if the patient was Hebrew-speaking and their responses included addressing the patient's medical condition, quality of life concerns, patient-centered reflections, available resources, and attitudes towards the treatment program. Therefore, promoting communication between PCPs and IP can be significant in improving patient outcomes from IO treatment programs.

It found that the overall effectiveness of the vaccine was 67.6% against SARS-CoV-2 infection and 87.9% against COVID-19-related hospitalizations. The effectiveness of Gam-COVID-Vac peaked at 91.8% in the first two months after the second dose but declined to 57.8% at six months. The study concluded that the vaccine provided sustainable effectiveness against COVID-19-related hospitalizations.

Summary: In the first quarter of 2022, Omicron rapidly displaced Delta and became prevalent in hospitalized COVID-19 adults. Although Omicron infections showed a less severe clinical presentation, there were no substantial differences in clinical progression compared to Delta infections. This suggests that any hospitalization, especially in more vulnerable individuals, may be at risk for severe progression, which is more related to the underlying frailty of patients rather than the intrinsic severity of the viral variant.

Summary: This study found that NIV failure in COVID-19 ARDS patients is correlated with the severity of the disease. In COVID-19 patients, starting NIV treatment appears to increase its effectiveness and reduce the risk of intubation and/or death for patients with mild ARDS (P/F > 200 mmHg). Additionally, early NIV treatment seems to decrease the risk of ICU mortality at 28 days from ICU admission.
