Summary: This study analyzed the correlation between the characteristics of coronary plaque in coronary heart disease (CHD) patients with phlegm-blood stasis syndrome (PBS) and blood stasis syndrome (BSS). The results showed that patients with PBS had a higher degree of calcified plaque and severe coronary artery stenosis, indicating poor clinical prognosis but with a low probability of acute coronary events. In contrast, patients with BSS had a relatively low degree of calcified plaque and more vulnerable plaques, resulting in a higher possibility of acute coronary events.

Summary: In this study, the role of diabetes mellitus in the occurrence, risk factors, and outcomes of acute kidney injury (AKI) in ACS patients was evaluated. While diabetic patients were at a higher risk of developing AKI when admitted with ACS, the independent predictors of AKI and the worse patient outcomes did not differ significantly based on diabetes status.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Comparing patients with ACS who underwent PCI with and without IVUS, it was found that IVUS-guided PCI was associated with a lower risk of in-hospital mortality. However, the utilization of IVUS-guided PCI remains low across the United States despite its importance.

Summary: This study found that HDL functionality is associated with the composition of coronary plaques, particularly the percentage lipid volume. The positive correlation between high HDL-CEC and plaque volume suggests that HDL functionality may have a protective effect on the development of coronary artery disease.

Summary: This study explored the relationship between the geometric configuration of ruptured plaque and the occurrence of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in patients with coronary artery disease using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The analysis revealed that local blood flow around ACS-provoked ruptures was more stagnant compared to silent plaque ruptures.

Summary: Coronary angiography has been the standard for diagnosing coronary artery disease and guiding percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Intravascular imaging (IVI) technologies are used in conjunction with angiography to better assess plaque morphology and optimize PCI. IVI has utility in preintervention assessment, procedural guidance, and postintervention evaluation. IVI's role in reducing major adverse cardiac events in complex lesions is emerging, and further studies are underway. This paper provides an overview of available IVI technologies, reviews evidence supporting their use in PCI, and advocates for broader utilization.

Summary: In this paper, a novel perceptual organisation-aware selective transformer framework is proposed for accurate and robust segmentation of vessel walls in IVUS images. The framework utilizes temporal context-based feature encoders to extract efficient motion features of vessels and incorporates a perceptual organisation-aware selective transformer module to extract accurate boundary information. The obtained results are fused in a temporal constraining and fusion module to determine the most likely correct boundaries with robustness to morphology. Extensive evaluation on non-selected IVUS sequences demonstrates that the proposed methods outperform the state-of-the-art. The work has been integrated into a user-friendly software for automatic IVUS image segmentation.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of diabetes mellitus (DM) on young females with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The results showed that compared to the control group, the DM group had a higher prevalence of overweight, depression or anxiety, and ACS. The coronary artery lesions were more severe in DM patients, but there was no significant difference in the rate of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) between the two subgroups, although the rate of all-cause death was significantly higher in the DM-ACS subgroup.

Summary: Researchers have developed a full-color, vertically stacked micro-LED (mu LED) with the highest array density and smallest size reported so far. This was achieved using a two-dimensional materials-based layer transfer technique, enabling the growth of RGB LEDs with submicron thickness on two-dimensional material-coated substrates, followed by stacking and top-down fabrication. This technology not only opens up new possibilities for full-color mu LED displays in augmented and virtual reality applications, but also provides a generalizable platform for other three-dimensional integrated devices.

Summary: This study investigated the synergistic association between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and remnant cholesterol (remnant-C) levels with incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) in a large Korean population. The results showed that individuals with high levels of both LDL-C and remnant-C had a higher risk of CVD compared to those with normal levels. Additionally, elevated remnant-C levels, independent of LDL-C levels, were associated with an increased risk of CVD.

Summary: The rapid advancement of additive manufacturing technologies allows for the creation of pixelated or voxelated structures known as digital materials in 2D or 3D, respectively. These digital materials offer maximum design flexibility without constraints on geometry and material, resulting in unique physical properties and functionalities that cannot be achieved through conventional manufacturing processes. However, the vast design space of digital materials presents a significant challenge in maximizing their availability. In this study, a novel deep generative model with discrete representations of the latent space was developed for designing digital materials. The proposed model, inspired by the discrete nature of digital materials, achieves comparable reconstruction and prediction accuracies with only one-third of the data usage compared to conventional generative models. The physical insights provided by the discrete representations of the latent space demonstrate a strong correlation between certain discrete representations and the mechanical behavior of digital materials, such as auxeticity. Furthermore, the proposed model is proven to be an excellent tool for generating functionally graded structures and previously unseen auxetic structures.
