Summary: This study presents the most comprehensive dataset of sperm and spermiogenesis features in the Neotropical fish family Characidae and uses them as a third source of data for phylogenetic analysis. The results show that reproductive characters are more variable than general morphology and DNA, and provide synapomorphies for nodes without morphological synapomorphies, justifying their use in phylogenetic analyses.

Summary: A new species of fish, Knodus ytuanama, was discovered in the upper Rio Juruena, Rio Tapajos drainage, Amazon basin, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species exhibits unique features such as thickened interradial membranes in the caudal fin, a dark midlateral stripe extending from the opercle to the caudal-fin rays, absence of a humeral blotch in adults, and four rows of scales between the lateral line and the pelvic-fin origin. The presence of membranous flaps on the fins in Knodus ytuanama and a congener, K. tiquiensis, is discussed as an adaptation for living in fast-water environments.

Summary: A new species of Poptella is described from the upper Rio Amazon basin in Peru, distinguished by its dense field of dark chromatophores, posterior humeral blotch extending to three to four scale rows below the lateral line, and a higher number of branched dorsal-fin rays. This new species can be easily distinguished from P. paraguayensis by its comparatively shorter predorsal spine.

Summary: The early development of Markiana nigripinnis is described based on morphological characters, pigmentation, and morphometry. Larvae were obtained through seminatural breeding and analyzed using their developmental stages. The study found that larvae are poorly developed at hatching and gradually develop functional features at the preflexion and flexion stages. Pigmentation is distributed throughout the body, with higher concentrations in certain areas. The myomere total number and fins ray number show variations during early ontogeny.
