Summary: The study found that YJHD can effectively improve renal function, alleviate renal pathological injury, protect podocytes, and reduce renal fibrosis. The mechanism may be related to the promotion of autophagy, inhibition of the mTOR pathway, and regulation of the PI3K/Akt and AMPK pathways.

Summary: Moderate exercise is important in attenuating diabetic kidney disease, and it has been found that irisin secreted by skeletal muscles protects the kidney by inhibiting abnormal activation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway, restoring autophagy in podocytes. This suggests that irisin may become a new drug for prevention and treatment of diabetic nephropathy.

Summary: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a microvascular complication of poorly controlled diabetes caused by chronic hyperglycemia. Metformin, a first-line drug in oral treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, has been found to have a protective effect on DKD. This study aimed to investigate the regulatory role of metformin in DKD.

Summary: This study identifies Spop as a suppressor of NLRP3 inflammasome. The downregulation of Spop in kidney of DN patients indicates its potential role in DN management. Loss of Spop in podocytes accelerates renal dysfunction and pathological changes in DN mice, as well as enhances inflammatory response. Spop promotes NLRP3 degradation as a mechanism to limit NLRP3 inflammasome under high glucose condition.

Summary: The study demonstrated that oat beta glucan can lower blood glucose levels, improve renal function, significantly decrease serum inflammation levels, enhance intestinal microbial diversity, and modulate the composition of intestinal flora, which in turn delays the progression of diabetic nephropathy.

Summary: Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a major cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and end-stage renal disease (ESRD). This study found that the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-37 is decreased in DKD, but its effect on renal fibrosis is unclear. Using mouse models and in vitro cell experiments, the study showed that IL-37 can alleviate renal fibrosis in DKD by regulating the fatty acid oxidation pathway (FAO) in renal epithelial cells. Therefore, increasing IL-37 levels may be an effective therapeutic approach for DKD.

Summary: Glycolysis dysfunction is an important mechanism of podocyte injury in diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Cytoskeletal remodeling is related to foot process fusion of podocytes, but its connection with alterations of glycolysis in DKD has not been clarified.

Summary: In this study, the kidney-protective effect of salvianolate (SAL) on membranous nephropathy (MN) in a rat model was investigated. SAL was found to inhibit hypercoagulable states, upregulate the expressions of WT-1, PCX, and VEGF in renal tissue, and repair podocyte injury.

Summary: The present study demonstrated that exposure to 2.856 GHz microwave radiation caused significant structural and functional impairments of the male reproductive system, including hormone disorder, decreased sperm motility, depleted sperm energy, and abnormalities of testicular structure as well as mitochondrial impairment. However, metformin was found to effectively protect the reproductive system against these damages by inhibiting oxidative stress and apoptosis, indicating its potential as a promising antioxidant to mitigate the harmful effects of microwave radiation.
