A carbonate-bridged rhodium(III) dimeric complex of formula mu-CO3-[(ppy)2Rh]2, (ppy = 2-phenylpyridine) was synthesized and characterized by IR and 1H NMR spectroscopy as well as X-ray diffraction. The bridging carbonate ion presumably originates from the capture of CO2 in air deduced on a series of control experiments, which may have valuable implications for the study of fixation of CO2. The luminescent and thermal properties of this complex were also investigated.
