Summary: This paper explores the affect-logic approach to schizophrenia in light of general complexity theories of cognition, suggesting that emotional tension may play a role in the transition from normal to psychotic functioning in vulnerable individuals. Additionally, the free energy principle proposes that psychotic symptoms correspond to alternative ways of minimizing free energy, leading to distorted perceptions of the body, self, and reality.

Summary: Enactive approaches to cognition emphasize the connection between cognition and action, as well as the externalization of cognitive activities through embodiment and ecological interactions. The idea of Direct Social Perception (DSP) suggests that we can directly perceive features of other minds, including certain characteristics of mental disorders. By using an enactive approach, we can clarify the role we play in shaping the temporal and phenomenal characteristics of disorders, which can have practical significance for clinical and therapeutic encounters.

Summary: There have been renewed calls to use phenomenology in psychiatry to improve knowledge about mental health conditions. However, there is still relatively little information on how to practically facilitate this integration. This article argues for a shared semantic framework and shows how an applied ontology of phenomenological psychopathology can address these challenges.

Summary: This study translated the Embodied Sense-of-Self Scale (ESSS) into Italian and examined its factor structure, reliability, and validity in an Italian sample. The three-factor structure of the ESSS was confirmed, although three different factors emerged in the Italian sample. The measure demonstrated good reliability and validity, showing consistent relationships with other variables. The 19-item Italian version of the ESSS is a suitable measure for assessing embodiment abnormalities in Italian samples.

Summary: Africa, as an underdeveloped region, has a rapidly developing aviation industry that plays a crucial role in achieving carbon neutrality. However, the problem of carbon transfer caused by passenger flow on international routes, particularly in Africa, has not been addressed. This study calculates the CO2 emissions of African international routes from 2019 to 2021 and measures carbon transfer and compensation. The routes with the most carbon transfer are from Ethiopia to Kenya and from Honduras to Ghana, burdening relatively poorer countries.

Summary: This article discusses the widely debated issue in contemporary metaphysics of whether the modal profile of ordinary objects needs to be explained in non-modal terms. It argues that if this holds true for objects, it should also apply to processes and events. The article then develops a metaphysical account of processes based on Fine's suggestions, proposing that a process is a variable embodiment manifested by different events over time. The article also raises a challenge for this account to explain modal features of processes in non-modal terms, and concludes by exploring revisions to the theory.

Summary: The study reveals that multimodal hallucinations often co-occur with emotional feelings, bodily sensations, and extend beyond the body into peripersonal space. Participants effectively documented hallucination experiences through visual diary methods, demonstrating the diversity of hallucinations.

Summary: The study conducted 25 semi-structured interviews with in-patients with SSD who participated in Yoga-based Group Intervention (YoGI) and found that YoGI had positive effects on patients, such as enhancing self-awareness, self-acceptance, and relaxation. However, participants also faced challenges that need to be addressed, including physical limitations.

Summary: The study found that expert tool users do not incorporate their tools into their neural representation of the body as much as novices, preferring to differentiate between hands and tools. These findings suggest an alternative framework to the prominent tool embodiment theory.

Summary: The use of virtual avatars to experience alternative bodies has potential in learning anatomy and medical communication. This study investigates the impact of avatars displaying anatomy and injuries on embodiment, well-being, presence, and motor performance. The results show that virtual representations of anatomy and injuries are suitable for medical visualizations without significantly affecting users' mental state or physical control within the simulation.

Summary: Experiences of illness can change the ways in which the world and the self are known through the body. In the case of inherited cancer predisposition syndromes, the risk is embodied and shared within family groups, regardless of symptoms. This study uses Li-Fraumeni syndrome as an example to explore how individuals and families with genetic risk understand their disease through their bodies.

Summary: The study explored the influence of virtual wine tours on young consumers' purchasing behaviors and sensory experience, using embodied cognition theory as the research framework. Results showed that the VR wine tour video evoked higher intentions to purchase and willingness to pay compared to the traditional video. Consumers with higher levels of wine knowledge appreciated the video presence and the tastes/aromas of the wine more than consumers with lower levels of wine knowledge.

Summary: Immersive virtual reality can lead to a strong feeling of embodiment over artificial body parts, but the neural mechanisms behind this phenomenon are not yet fully understood. By tracking real-time brain dynamics, researchers found that observing virtual body parts is associated with a rapid decrease in cortical activity in the hand region of the primary motor cortex, as well as rapid changes in activity within a fronto-parietal circuit. These findings suggest that changes in bodily representations are supported by dynamic interactions within a highly plastic network.

Summary: Exploratory ventures beyond disciplinary boundaries can provide additional insights and explanatory power. This article takes a constructive approach to examine the gains in modeling human action within physical principles. Concepts of complexity and emergence explain the absence of analytically derivable mapping between micro and macro phenomena. The notion of embodiment captures a wider range of explanatory factors in understanding human behavior. Emergence and embodiment complement each other in the exploration of human behavior.
