Summary: This systematic review aimed to identify and synthesize clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) for perioperative care specific to frail older adults. The study found that despite the increasing number of frail patients, there is a lack of guidelines addressing frailty-specific perioperative care. Therefore, high-quality primary research is needed to establish future guidelines.

Summary: Current clinical practice guidelines for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia vary in quality and recommendations, particularly in terms of treatment initiation threshold and pharmacotherapy. Future guideline development should pay more attention to the quality of the development process and incorporate more qualified evidence to standardize treatment initiation threshold.

Summary: This study provides a comprehensive assessment of currently available guidelines for the management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) during pregnancy, intrapartum, and postnatal periods. The study identifies the focus and scope of recommendations in these guidelines, highlighting the importance of antenatal care interventions, postnatal assessments, and health system recommendations. The findings suggest the need for holistic guidelines that integrate NCD care throughout the maternal health services, with a specific focus on resource-limited contexts.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed 29 guidelines published by national and international organizations from 1994 to 2020, revealing that most guidelines make non-recommended treatment suggestions for patients with bipolar disorder. However, there is significant variation in how information regarding lack of efficacy data or potential harm is conveyed to the reader.

Summary: The study aimed to systematically evaluate clinical practice guidelines for managing critically ill COVID-19 patients using the AGREE II instrument. 71 CPGs were included, with most showing low overall quality. Future CPGs for COVID-19 should rely on standard evidence-based methods and tools for development.

Summary: The aim of this study was to identify and evaluate high-quality stroke guidelines that can inform aphasia management. We identified 9 high-quality guidelines and extracted 82 recommendations for aphasia management. Most recommendations were aphasia-related, but there were gaps in aphasia-specific recommendations in the areas of accessing community supports, return to work and leisure, driving, and interprofessional practice.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between basic methodological standards of guideline development and published clinical practice guidelines related to COVID-19. Despite clear scope, most guidelines fell short of basic methodological standards, with only a small percentage meeting the highest quality criteria. Clinicians are advised to use guidelines that are up-to-date, involve stakeholders, and use rigorous methodologies.

Summary: This review aimed to identify factors that influence the translation of shared cancer follow-up care into clinical practice. The study found that reciprocal clinical information sharing between oncologists and general practitioners is crucial, and the responsibility of care should be shared with the overseeing oncologist. General practitioners need to have the necessary skills and knowledge to provide cancer follow-up care. Clinical management guidelines and rapid referral are needed to support general practitioners in providing shared follow-up care. Continuity of care and patient satisfaction are vital for shared care.

Summary: This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness and quality-adjusted life-years of treatment pathways for ureteric stones using extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (SWL) or ureteroscopic retrieval (URS). The results showed that although SWL resulted in lower QALYs, it had lower costs and was considered cost-effective at certain willingness to pay thresholds.

Summary: Cancer is a leading cause of death, with 10 million deaths in 2020. Hospital-Based Cancer Registries (HBCRs) that collect administrative and clinical data could improve integrated and equitable evidence-based care, but their role in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) is poorly understood. This scoping review found limited evaluation of HBCRs in LMICs, with registries functioning more as data collection tools than information systems to guide cancer care priorities and policies.

Summary: Overactive bladder syndrome (OAB) is a common condition among women, and its treatment options include conservative measures, medication, and surgery. Antimuscarinics and beta-3 agonists are effective in reducing OAB symptoms, but beta-3 agonists are better at reducing nocturia episodes. Onabotulinumtoxin-A (Onabot-A) is also effective but has higher rates of adverse events. Sacral nerve stimulation (SNS) shows high success rates and satisfaction, while Onabot-A injections have higher satisfaction rates but also higher rates of recurrent UTIs.
