Summary: This study found that patients with infectious mononucleosis often exhibit mild, transient hypertriglyceridemia during the acute phase, which decreases during convalescence and is lower than the initial measurement in a majority of cases. It was also observed that older patients are more likely to have hypertriglyceridemia than younger patients, and there is a significant correlation between triglyceride levels and white blood cell counts, total cholesterol levels, and liver damage markers. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms behind these findings.

Summary: This study found that nonclassic human leukocyte antigen E (HLA-E)-restricted immune responses have a significant impact on the development of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) diseases in the individual host. The highly expressed HLA-E*0103/0103 genotype is protective against infectious mononucleosis (IM) by inducing potent EBV BZLF1-specific HLA-E-restricted CD8(+) T-cell responses. Variations in the inhibitory NKG2A/LMP-1/HLA-E axis are associated with the risk of symptomatic EBV reactivations in both immunocompetent individuals and immunocompromised transplant recipients.

Summary: This case report presents a 72-year-old female patient who had undergone renal transplant 11 years ago and developed progressively worsening headaches and confusion. Imaging revealed brain edema in the frontal and temporal lobes. Surgical biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of Polymorphic PTLD. Early diagnosis is crucial for patient survival with PTLD.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate serum bilirubin concentrations in patients with infectious mononucleosis and immune abnormalities associated with jaundice. The results showed that 15.1% of patients had serum bilirubin concentrations between 1.5 and 3 mg/dL, and 12.0% had serum bilirubin > 3 mg/dL. Patients with increased bilirubin concentrations had a distinct clinical presentation and higher levels of immune activation markers.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the pathogens and features of infectious mononucleosis (IM) in children admitted to Wuhan Children's Hospital from 2013 to 2022. The results showed that Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) was the main pathogen, followed by Mycoplasma pneumoniae and cytomegalovirus. Evaluation of blood biomarkers and myocardial damage markers can help physicians take preventive actions to avoid serious complications in children with IM.

Summary: This study explored the application value of two laboratory tests in diagnosing EBV-IM in children. The combination of EBV-DNA, EBV-CA IgM, and low-affinity EBV-CA IgG testing showed the highest diagnostic efficacy with a sensitivity of 100% and specificity of 89.8%. The combined immunofluorescence and real-time PCR methods have high sensitivity and specificity in the clinical diagnosis of EBV-IM.

Summary: In this study, it was found that plasma EBV-DNA test has a higher diagnostic value than VCA-IgG avidity test in different age stages and over the course of the disease. Peripheral lymphocyte test and plasma EBV-DNA test are suitable for the early stage of the disease, while the VCA-IgG avidity test is suitable for after 7 days of the disease.

Summary: Through analysis of 73 patients with infectious mononucleosis (IM), it was found that EBV type 1 was predominant and there was a limited repertoire of LMP1 variants, with some patients having multiple LMP1 variants. Co-infections with different LMP1 variants were associated with increased levels of C-reactive protein and decreased neutrophil and platelet counts.

Summary: The aim of this study was to understand the renal damage and clinical features of pediatric patients with acute Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. A total of 41 out of 548 enrolled patients showed renal damage, mainly manifested as hematuria, proteinuria, edema, and hypertension. Compared to the non-renal damage group, patients in the renal damage group had longer fever durations, higher blood EBV-DNA loads, and lower blood CD4(+)/CD8(+) T lymphocyte ratios.

Summary: This study investigated the epidemiology and infectious characteristics of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection among children in Shanghai, China from 2017 to 2022. The results showed that EBV was prevalent among children, and coinfection with bacteria or other viruses increased the viral loads of EBV. The primary EBV-related diseases were systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), immunodeficiency, and infectious mononucleosis (IM).
