Since the 1990ies a dike replacement further to the inland at the River Elbe near Lenzen was planned and realized by the state of Brandenburg. The Federal Waterways and Engineering Institute (BAW) supported the preparation and the realization of this project with hydraulic-morphological model investigations of the surface run-off. In the meantime the effect of this measure could be observed in nature on the occasion of several floods. A synopsis of the flow data originating from nature and model results allows conclusions about the quality of the forecast models as well as the effect of the measure focussing on water level and discharge distribution.
