Summary: The study characterized and evaluated NDV isolates from commercial poultry farms in Iran in 2019 through haemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) gene sequencing. Phylogenetic analysis showed the virus is closely related to genotypes VII and III, with all isolates encoding proteins with a length of 571 aa. This study's results contribute to a better understanding of the molecular epidemiology of indigenous NDV strains and important molecular differences between field and vaccine strains.

Summary: This study investigated four complete HN genes isolated from turkey, peacock, and broiler isolates in Iran between 2018 and 2020. Multiple genetic mutations and pathogenicity-related issues were identified. The study also calculated the annual rate of change of the HN gene of Iranian NDV. The findings suggest the circulation of a new NDV variant among chickens, turkeys, and captive birds, highlighting the need for improved vaccination programs and biosecurity plans.

Summary: The study found that the reticulons closely related to RTNLB13 in Arabidopsis thaliana contain curvature-sensing amphipathic helices (APH) with sequence conservation, playing an important role in ER membrane curvature. In contrast, a more distantly related branch of reticulons developed a linker between the transmembrane domain and APH, which may enhance functional flexibility.

Summary: Differentiation of neural progenitor cells into mature neuronal phenotypes relies on extensive temporospatial coordination of mRNA expression. Cleavage and polyadenylation of mRNA has regulatory capacity through the alteration of mRNA stability and modulation of miRNA function. Our findings suggest poly(A) tail length and APA function as part of a rich post-transcriptional regulatory matrix during neuronal differentiation.

Summary: Whole-genome sequencing was used to determine antimicrobial resistance patterns and virulence gene profiles of 82 Salmonella Enteritidis strains isolated in Peninsular Malaysia over 3 years. Results showed common genetic traits among isolates from humans, poultry, and food, indicating the need for measures to control the spread of resistant pathogens.

Summary: The recent development of a long-term in vitro culture system for Treponema pallidum subsp. pallidum allows detailed genetic analysis of this bacterium. In this study, clonal populations of the widely studied strain Nichols were isolated and characterized using this system. The clones showed indistinguishable morphology and motility, similar multiplication rates, and comparable infectivity in rabbits. Genetic sequencing revealed heterogeneity in the form of insertions, deletions, and single nucleotide variations. These strain-specific variations likely arose independently during human infection or within the 110 years since the strain's isolation, representing examples of microevolution and divergence.

Summary: In this study, a highly virulent Newcastle disease virus (NDV) isolate was purified and characterized according to standard protocols. Genetic analysis and challenge studies confirmed that the isolate belonged to sub-genotype VII.1.1 and exhibited high pathogenicity. The results suggest that the isolate can be used as a national standard challenge strain for vaccine trials and commercial production.

Summary: This study investigated the distribution and genetic relatedness of sasX, qacA/B, and mupA genes in MRSA isolates. The results showed the presence of sasX and qacA/B genes, while the mupA gene was not detected. MLST analysis revealed two major MRSA clones, ST22 and ST239, with different virulence and resistance determinants.

Summary: The draft genome sequences of Acinetobacter soli AC1511 and AC15148, isolated from a tertiary hospital in Terengganu, Malaysia in 2015, are reported. AC1511 was assembled into 43 contigs with a total genome size of 3,320,693 bp, while AC15148 consisted of 47 contigs with a total genome size of 3,260,687 bp.

Summary: This study revealed the circulation of velogenic and lentogenic Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strains in both commercial and native chickens with varying genotypes. The virus was found distributed in almost all organs, particularly in the digestive and respiratory systems. Organ damage caused by lentogenic infection was less severe than that caused by velogenic NDV.
