Infrared spectra of the powdered (C3N2H5)(5)Bi2Cl11, (C3N2H5)(5)Bi2Br11 and (C3N2H5)(5)Sb2Br11 crystals in the region of internal vibrations of the imidazolium cations (3600 and 400 cm(-1)) at the temperature intervals of 10-300 K, covering paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transitions, are presented and discussed in this paper. The research shows that the vibrational states of the imidazolium cations change markedly during the paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition. The continuous nature of these transitions is well reflected in the infrared spectra, which is consistent with the previous X-ray and dielectric findings. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Summary: The guanidinium derivatives GBI and GSI show promising electrooptical and semiconducting properties, with ac conductivity in the range of 10(-5) - 10(-7) S/m in their high temperature phases. Studies on optical, dielectric, UV-Vis, Raman, and H-1 NMR spectroscopy reveal the key role of guanidium cation dynamics in phase transition mechanisms.

Summary: Organic-inorganic perovskite hybrids (OIPHs) have gained significant interest due to their facile synthesis, flexibility, and tunability. This study reports the synthesis and characterization of a novel ABX(3)-type ferroelectric crystal AZECdCl(3) with enhanced electric permittivity and excellent ferroelectric properties. The crystal also exhibits ferroelastic properties and high contrast second-harmonic generation (SHG) switching in the IV <-> III phase transition.

Michal Chanski, Agat a Bialonska, Ryszard Jakubas, Magdalena Rok, Jan K. Zareba, Rafal Janicki, Piotr Durlak, A. . Piecha-Bisiorek

Summary: This paper reports a new class of ferroelectric compounds, halobismuthates(III) and haloantimonates(III) with the R3MX6 chemical composition. A specific haloantimonate(III) ferroelectric, (C2N3H4)3[SbBr6] (TBA), is studied and found to undergo two solid-solid phase transitions and one paraelectric-ferroelectric phase transition. The ferroelectric properties of TBA and its molecular origins of polarization are confirmed by experimental and computational methods.

Summary: We synthesized and characterized two new lead-free organic-inorganic hybrid crystals: (S(CH3)(3))(3)[Bi2I9] (TBI) and (S(CH3)(3))(3)[Sb2I9] (TSI). Thermal analysis showed that both compounds undergo structural phase transitions. TBI undergoes two phase transitions at 314.2/314.8 K (cooling/heating) and at 181.5 K (I. II and II. III).

Summary: We have synthesized and characterized two new organic-inorganic hybrid crystals: AZECr and AZEFe. Thermal analysis results indicate that both compounds undergo a structural phase transition during cooling. Crystal structure analysis shows that AZECr and AZEFe are isomorphous in the high-temperature phase, but differ in the low-temperature phase. Infrared spectroscopy and dielectric measurements confirm the existence of this transition.

Summary: Results from an infrared spectroscopy study on hydrated nanocrystalline films of BaZr1-xScxO3-x/2 with different Sc concentrations show variations in the O-H stretching bands, indicating different proton configurations. Higher Sc concentrations exhibit a distinct O-H stretching band, while lower Sc concentrations show a broader, weaker band.
