Summary: This study presents a simple and efficient method for the preparation of highly substituted tertiary arylphosphines. The method involves the arylation of tertiary aryl and alkyl phosphines with aryl(mesityl)iodonium triflates under blue light irradiation, followed by a retro-Michael reaction initiated by DBU. The method is mild, transition-metal-free, and shows high selectivity, broad functional group compatibility, as well as scalability and applicability to substrates with different electronic and steric nature.

Summary: Increasing awareness of climate issues has led to new policies on buildings' energy consumption, such as the EPBD in the EU. The EPBD aims to achieve climate and energy goals by requiring new buildings to be nearly zero-energy buildings (nZEBs) by 2021. This paper analyzes the environmental performance of a nZEB university building in Norway and considers the energy and environmental perspective of its annual electricity and heat consumption.

Summary: This paper explores the relationship between environmental innovations, geographic spillovers, and economic and environmental performance. Using data from the OECD database for Europe, Japan, and USA from 2005 to 2017, the paper analyzes the correlation between patents in environmental technologies, geographic spillovers, and GDP. The empirical analysis shows a positive relationship between innovation processes in environmental technologies, geographic spillovers, and GDP. The results also reveal an N-shaped Environmental Kuznets Curve, where the direction of the relationship between CO2 emissions and economic performance depends on a country's level of economic development. These findings have important implications for "green growth" policies.

Summary: This paper proposes a multi-energy sharing mechanism based on Nash bargaining theory among communities, exploring the impact of heterogeneous carbon emission responsibilities on economic and environmental benefits. The distributed solution is implemented through the alternating direction method of multipliers algorithm. Sensitivity analyses are conducted to provide further insights, showing that the proposed sharing mechanism can achieve cost savings and carbon emission reduction.

Summary: Hydrothermal liquefaction of algal biomass is a promising technology for the production of liquid biofuels in the renewable energy sector. Recent research has focused on the effect of feedstock composition and solvents on biocrude quality and yield. Challenges associated with high N/C and O/C ratios in proteinaceous biomass-derived biocrude need to be addressed. Co-liquefaction of carbonaceous biomass and the use of solvents as reaction medium and extraction agent have shown promise in improving biocrude formation. This paper extensively reviews the effect of feedstock composition and solvents on HTL biocrude formation and discusses future perspectives and challenges.

Summary: Effluents from sewage treatment plants are a significant source of estrogenic substances in water bodies, and this study assessed the presence of steroids, BPA, and phthalates in the effluents of three urban treatment plants in Beijing. The results showed that the concentrations and activities of estrogenic compounds were lower in the tertiary effluent compared to the secondary effluent. The study also revealed the removal mechanisms for these compounds, with biodegradation playing a significant role for some compounds while others were removed through adsorption and sedimentation.

Summary: This study evaluated the application of a low-cost submerged microfiltration membrane bioreactor for the removal of microalgae from a water treatment plant's source water reservoir. The combination of backwashing and air scouring enhanced the flux, but did not improve the permeate quality. Vibration had a significant effect on microalgae removal and increased turbidity removal rate.
